ROBERT F. PADEN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
WORK-BOX. I
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed May 16, 1908. Serial No. 433,276.
Patented March 30, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit' known that .1, ROBERT F. PADEN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have inventedpnew and useful Improvements in Work-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates toa ladys work box or cabinet, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a work box. in which the cover of the box is made in four sections which when opened out form a table or support for the work.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combined work cabinet and table mounted upon a single stand and provided with compartments for the work, with spool racks for thread of different characters and a socket in the central post for the thimble.
Still another object is. to provide an article of the character referred to which shall be cheap to manufacture, which will be light and portable, which will occupy but little space and which can be conveniently used as a table to su port the ladys work. These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction described in the accompanying drawing, in which,-
F1gure 11s a perspective view of a combined work cabinet and table made in accordance with my invention, the cover of the cabinet being open to form a table. Fig. 2 is a similar View of the upper portion of the device, showing the cover sections closed. Fig. 3-is a central vertical section taken through the cabinet, the cover sections and the post.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a standard supported upon legs 2, and 3 is the work box or cabinet. The stand. ard 1 extends through the bottom 4 of the cabinet, and suitable brackets 5 secured to the standard support the box above the same. Within the box or cabinet 4 partitions '6 are provided, said partitions extending diagonally from the corners of the post 1 to the corners of the box, thus making the four compartments triangular in form or substantially so. The upper portions of the parti' tions at their outer ends are recessed, and set into the recesses are the spool racks 7, said Hinged to the sides and ends of the cabinet arethe cover sections 10,there being four such sections, each being triangular in form with their apices disposed centrally to the cabinet and supported upon the upper end of the post 1, said upper end lying flush with the upper, edge of the box or cabinet. ln the upper end of the 0st 1 is a pocket 11 for containing a thiinb e 12.
In use, the cover sections 10 may be used to form a work table, and the various articles needed for the work are contained in the compartments between the partitions, while the thimble is always to be found in the pocket 11 and the thread upon the spindles 8. When the work is completed it may be placed within the cabinet and'the sections 10 closed, thus forming a stand or table which can be readily moved about from place to place, owing to its lightness in weight.
My invention can. be manufactured at slight cost, is very, convenient and useful for its purpose and may be made very ornamental if desired.
Having thus described what is claimed as new, is
1. A lady's work cabinet connrising a standard, a work box the sides of which have straighttop edges, said box mounted upon said standard with the end of the standard in substantially the same plane as the top edges of the sides, and triangular corner sections foldably mounted on said box so that they may be thrown outwardly into the plane ofthe top edges of the work box to orm a work table and the free corners thereof are supported when closed upon the end of the standard.
2. 111a work table, a central standard, a work box mounted on said standard, the upper end of said standard projecting through an aperture in the central portion of the bottom of said box and extending upwardly into the box, partitions extending radially from said standard to the sides of the box, and a thimble pocket formed in the top of said standard.
In testimony whereof I affix my slgnature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT F. PADEN the invention,
