ile I prefer, in most cases, to construct form of a cap, this is not absolutely essential to the proper carrying out of my invention, as a yoke carrying the spring member and having the desired number of arms `l'or engagement with the notched rib oi the jar may be employed in place of such closed cap., if desired, such construction being illustrated at 11, in Fig. 6, or I may use a sin le bar yoke 12, as shown in Fig. 8 said yoke aving fingers engaging with notchesA in a continuiL ous rib on the jar, and being depressed in the center so as to form a spring member 7b and this yoke' may be mounted upon the cover, if desired, as for instance by riveting it thereto', as shown at 1.3.

The thickened members 3 ol' the rib shown in Fig. 2 have abrupt ends, but they may, in some cases, be provided with inclined portions 14 leading to the notches, as shown, vl'or instance, by dotted lines in Fig. 7, the engagement oi the fingers 6 of the retainer with these inclined portions serving to cause the depression of said retainer as the latter. is turned a'l'ter being applied to the jar.

A closure constructed iii accordance with my invention can be cheaply made, it provides a neat and attractive finish for the top of the jar, and, `when the retainer is in the l'orni oll a closed cap, it serves to protect the cover, or cover and spring, from injury or displacement.
