UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADAM B. MOON, OF GROVE CITY, PENNSYLVANIA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 23, 1909.
Application filed December 17, 1908. Serial No. 467,980.
tion, reference being had therein to the accompanymg drawing.
The inventlon relates to washing devices,
and the primary object of m invention is to provide a simple and durab e machine that can be used in connection with the ordinary type of wash tub.
Another object of my invention is to provide a novel device that can be manually actuated for agitating clothes in a wash tub to that extent as to remove dirt and foreign matter from the same.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a washing device that can be easily manipulated without much exertion, the device ermitting of clothes being easily and uiclsy placed in a wash tub and removed t erefrom.
With theabove and other objects in view which will more readily appear as the'invennates a wash tu tion is better understood, the same consists in the novel constructlon, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter (10- T scribed and then specifically claimed.
In the drawings:-Figurc 1 is a vertical sectional view of a washing device applied to a wash tub, Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the washing device removed from the tub, Fig. 3 is a plan of the detached clothes sup ort, and ig. 4 is a plan of an anchor for t e washing device.
In the accom anying drawings, 1 desigof the ordinary and well known type. Secured on the bottom of said tub is an anchor 2 in which is threaded a vertical hook 3. This hook is provided with a loosely mounted lever 4 and upon said lever tioncorres onding to an inverted V. Attached .to t 0 under side of the head 12 are cleats 13 forengaging the clothes 7.
Operation: Assunun that the lever 4 has been anchored in the t u and the supporting arms dplaced in position, the clothes 7 are place upon these arms. The tubular handle 8 is then placed downwardly over the lever 4, whereby the agitator head will rest upon the clothes. This agitator head is rocked, whereby water within the tub will be forced in and out the clothes and will thoroughly cleanse the same. The agitator head is moved when the clothes are to be taken from the tub, and when the tub is used for other purposes than washin clothes, the entire device can be removed y detaching the hook 3.
The washing device is made of light and durable metal and wood and is adapted to obviate the necessity of usin a wash board and similar scouring or scrub bing devices.
While in the drawings forming a art of this application there is illustrated tlie preferred embodiments of my invention, 1t is obvious that the same can be varied or changed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having now described my invention'what I claim as new, is
1. The combination with a wash tub having the bottom thereof rovided with a detachable book, of a lever oosely connected to said hook, a disk loosely mounted upon said lever, radiating clothes su portin arms carried by said dlsk, a tubu ar handle detachably mounted upon said lever, a collar carried by the lower end of said handle, radially disposed stra is carried by said collar, a twopart agitator ead secured to said straps, and I,
cleats carried by the bottom side of said head, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a wash tub, of a hook detachably mounted upon the bottom thereof, a lever loosely connected to said hook, clothes supporting arms loosely mounted upon the lower end of said lever, a tubular handle detachably mounted upon said lever, a circular a itator head carried by the lower end of said liandle, and in cross section corres )onding to an inverted V, and cleats carrie by the bottom side of said head, sub stantially as described.
3. A washing device for tubs comprising a hook adapted to be secured in said tub, a
lever loosely connected to said hook, clothes In testimony whereof I afiix my signature supportin arms loosely mounted upon the in the presence of two witnesses. lower em? of said lever, a handle loosely ADAM B MOON mounted upon said lever, a circular agitator head carried by the lower end of said handle, Witnesses:
and cleats carried by the bottom side of said M. P. BLACK,
head. C. C. M. CONK Y.
