HANS ON G. KELLY, OF WEST'BURLINGTON, IOWA. V
ATTAGEJWENT FOR GRAPHOPHONES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Hanson C. KELLY, a. residing at \Vest Burlington, in the county of Des Moines and state of Iowa,- have invented certain new and useful Im of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in attachments for graphophones, and the object is to provide means whereb the'pargraphophone as it becomes worn to be gathered oif from the disk or record, thereby preventing metal from workin into the records, and thus preserving the record. This manner of gathering up the particles will also overcome the scratching which is often caused after the'record has been used for any length of time.
The invention consists of"*certain novel features of construct1on and combinations of parts which will hereinafter be described and pointed out in the claims.
in the loophby a thumb screw cient ly above In the accompanying drawings Figure" I .is a view showing my invention applied to the grapliophone; Fig. 2 is a view of the bracket for holdingthe magnet, and Fig. 3 is a detail.
A, represents a graphophone of the ordinary type, and 1 is an arm of the graphephone upon which the horn 2 is mounted and to which the needle 3 is connected. A bracket 4 is connected to the arm l of the graphophone by means of a clamp 5, which clamp 1s preferably made integral with the bracket. The bracket 4 at its forward end extends upwardly as at 6, and then extends outwardly or forwardly to form the loop? -1Bet-ween the ends and inthe loop of the bracket a magnet 8 is placed, which is held 9. The magnet is adjusta yheld the loopso'that it can the certain distance, above the reco or disk.- The.
the disk or record is 'no possible "contact between so. that there Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed June 17, 1908. Serial No. 489,059.

magnet, -but the magnet is merely a sulficient distance above the disk so that all particles of the metal from the wear of the needle can be attracted and taken up by the magnet from the disk or record. V
F roin the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a means whereby records can be preserved and all particles of metal from the needle can be taken up by the magnet, arid thereby prevent metal from being ground into the disk or record, and at the same time by taking up these particles the scratching which is caused by the needle in many instances is obviated. 7
It is evident that slight changes might be a made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described withoutwdeparting from the s irit and scope of my invntidn, and hence do'not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein set forth, but Having fully described my invention, what I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An attachment for graphophones, comprising a magnet,'and means for supporting the magnet in the rear of thestylus for directly gathering. up the particles of metal from therecord. Y
2. An attachment for graphophones comprising an arm, a bracket clamped tothe arm, said bracket .havin a loop formed therein, and a magnet a jus bly held in the loop of the bragket for ollecting all particles of metal from the record. I j
3. An attachment for graphoplrones comat one en arm, said bracket being offset and having a and a magnet held in the loop of the bracket'for collecting parloop formed ticles of metal from. the records. a
