FRANK A. SCHIMANSKI, OF RACINE, WISCONSIN.
DEVICE FOR REMOVING PHONOGRAPHIG DISK RECORDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 4, 1910.
Application filed Kay 20, 1910. Serial No. 562,436.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. SCI-II- AIANSKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Racine, county of Racine, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and In proved Device for Removing Phonographlc Disk Records, of which the following IS a specification.
My invention relates to an accessory to disk phouogrnphs, and has for its object the production of a device adapted for employment in conjunction with phonographs of the character mentioned to facilitate the removal of the record disks therefrom.
A further object is the production of a device of the character mentioned which will be efficientin operation and of simple and inexpensive construction, hence of low cost to manufacture.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
'ith these objects in view my invention consists in an accessory to disk phonographs characterized as above mentioned and in certain details of construction which will be hereinafter fully described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Mv invention will be more readily understood by reference-to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure l is a pers ective view of a device embodying the pre erred form of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of an ordinary disk honograph illustrating the employment of my device in conjunction therewith.
Referring now to the drawing, 1 indicates the body of the device which is simply an elongated flat bar formed of any suitable material but preferably of wood. Said body is of comparatively thin construction, one end 2 thereof being enlarged or broadened. Said end is provided with a V-shaped slot 3 and the arms 4 thereof are formed tapering in construction toward their outer ends. Provided upon the opposite sides of the arms 4 adjacent the extremities thereof are transversely extending strips 5 of a suit able non-abrasive material, preferably feltor plush. The oipositc end 6 of the body 1 is also enlarged, the same being provided upon its opposite sides with coverin 7 of felt, plush, or any other suitable non-a rasive material. Said end is shown as being in the form of an arrow head, however, this is immaterial except in so far as it adds to neatness in design.
In using the device, as shown in Fig. 2, to remove a record disk, the end 2 thereof is inserted between the usual circular rotary supporting-plate 8 of the phonograph 9 and the record disk 10 mounted upon said plate, the arms 4 being tapered, as above described, in order to facilitate such insertion. Said end 2 is forced inwardly toward the center of the disk or toward the centering stud 11 which projects upwardly from the center of the plate 8 through the disk 10 (slot 3 in the end 2 being provided for the reception of said stud) until the disk 11 is elevated from said plate and is supported entirely upon the end 2 of the device, when said disk may evidently be lifted from said plate. Thus the removal of a record disk may be effected with ease and expedition, and by the employment, if desired, of only one hand. The non-abrasive strips 5 are provided in order to guard against scratchmg or otherwise marrmg the surfaces of the record disks during the insertion of the device thereunder. Said strips are referably of transversely arched form so t liat, upon the insertion of the device, as above stated, the same will not engage the edge of the disk to prevent further insertion of the device. The end 6 of the device is designed for employment as a duster, the same being especially applicable in the cleaning ofthe surfaces of the record disks preparatory to their arrangement in the phonograph for rendition.
\Vhile I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my device I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts described without departing from the spirit of the invention comprehended within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what. I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
