AUTOMATIC STOP FOR PHONOGRAPHS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 24., 1909.
Application filed August 4, 1908. Serial No. 446,904.
Tooll whom it concern:
B a it known that I, CHARLES A. RUMBLE,- a cihizonfof. the United States, residing at Lflwltfllllpin the county of Lewis and State of New York, have invented certain new and 1 for Phonographs; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descri tlon of the invention, such as-will enab e others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in means for stopping sound reproducing machines. when a record has been played and consistsof a clip secured to the reproducing arm and carrying an angled rod-which is clamped by means of a set screw u on the clip against the reproduce! arm and held in an adjusted osition, the angled end of the rod being a agted to be positioned in the path of the recor Theinvention comprises various details of construction, combinations \and arrangements .of g'ts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which the clip E which has a' threade tion it assumes when ,Fi ure 1 is a perspective view of a phonograp showing my invention as applied thereto, the device being shown in the posiit automatically stops the phono raph. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the reproducer arm showing the stop ing device in side elevation, and Fig. 3 is a etail erspective view of the device and a clip for' o-ldmg the same upon the reproducer arm.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings'by letter, A desi nates a casing of a sound reproducing or ta king machine, B a reproducer arm, and C the record mounted upon' the usual cylinder. g D designates an angled rod, the shank ortion of which passes through a rtures in aperture for thereception of an adjust screwF. The angled end of said rod is prererably provided with a buffer H in order that the end of. the
rod will not injure the record against which it might come in contact. Said clip is fitted over the reproducer arm in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings and; by' tightening the screw, the rod will be drawn frictionally against the under edge of thearm to hold the rod in a fixed position. The angled end of the rod is mounted as shown so that the end of the buffer, when the reproducer arm is-at its farthest limit in one direction to the right, will contact with the end of the record with sufiicient frictional force to cause the machine to stop. By means of the screw F, said rod may be nicely adjusted so that the machine will come to a stop immediately assoon as the record has played through.
Owing to the simplicity of my invention, it may be readily attached to various forms of sound reproducing or talkin machines, such as phonogra hs, graphop ones, etc., without an .specia appliances.
What I c aim to be new is: v
. 1-. In combination with a reproducer arm of a talking machine, an inverted U.-shaped cli adapted to straddle said arm and pro? vi ed with registerin a ertures adjacent to its ends, an an le ro passing through said apertures un v screw carried by said arm and adapted to frictionally engage said arm to hold the rod inan adjusted position.
2. In combination with arm of a talking machine, shaped cli and provi ed with registering apertures adjacent to the ends thereof, a threaded apere ture at the longitudinal center of the cli an adjusting screw mounted ed aperture and adapted to bear against the arm, an adjustablestop rod having an anthe reproducer an inverted U- in said threa emeath the arm, and a ill gled end, the shank portion of said rod passmg through said registering apertures and adapted to frictionally engage the under ed e of the reproducer arm as said screw is tig tened.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
- CHARLES A. RUMBLE. Witnesses:
ANNA RUMB E,
F. N. Lns'on.
