ARTHUR BROUILLET, OF SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA.
STOVE-HOOD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR BROUILLET, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Luis Obis o, in the county of San Luis Obispo an State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stove- Hoods, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in stove hoods, and has for its object to provide a simple, cheap and durable construction which may be readily attached to an ordinary stove or range and which will direct the odor arising from articles being cooked upon the stove to the flue oi the stove.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character constructed of a series of segments, having V-shaped sides hingedly secured together, each of the segments having their ends provided with lips, and the lips of one segment adapted to engage the lips of the segment to which it is pivoted, whereby each segment supports the segment to which it is pivoted.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a hood of this character with a flexile member connecting the lower segment and secured to the first segment, whereby the segments of the hood may be folded to any required degree.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction of stove hoods, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove hood constructed in accordance with the present invention, and showing the same in applied position. Fig. 2 is a central transverse sectional view of the same.
In the accompan ing drawings, the nu meral 1 designates t e top plate of an ordinary gas stove. Secured to this top 1 is the back 2 of the improved hood. This back 2 is provided with V-shaped sides 3 connected by an arcuate top 4. The back 2 is rovided with a rearwardly projecting 'agement with a suitable pipe 6 which is adapted to communicate with the flue or other suitable outlet.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 29, 1908.
Patented Feb. 23, 1909.
Serial No. 429,856.
The back 2 is provided with an extending portion 7 having its lower edge inturned and provided with suitable erforations adapted for the reception of b0 ts or other suitable retaining elements by which this portion of the device is secured upon the top plate 1 of the stove. Suitable brace rods 8 are also provided. These brace rods 8 have their upper extremity connected with the sides 3 of the back section 2 and their lower extremity connected with the top plate of the stove 1.
The edges of the sides 3 and the top 4 of the back member 2 are inturned to provide the lips 9, and a segment 10 having its edges provided with outturned li s 11 adapted to engage the lips 9, is pivotal y connected with the sides 3 of the back section. This section 10 has its sides V-shaped and connected by an arcuate top similar to the top 4 of the back section 2. The outer edges of the section 10 are inturned to provide a suitable lip 12, and this lip 12 is adapted to be engaged by an outturned lip provided upon the inner edges of the section 13 of the hood. This section 13 has its outer edges provided with inturned li s 14 adapted to be engaged by outturned ips provided upon a section 15 of the hood. These sections 3, 10, 13 and 15 are all pivoted together as at 16, whereby the sections may be readily folded one within the other and against the back section 2.
The section 15 is provided with a suitable staple 17 adapted for engagement with a chain or other suitable flexible element 18, and the section 2 has its top wall 4 provided with a suitable hook 19 adapted to engage the links of the chain 18, and thus retain the sections of the hood in any desired spread position.
Havin thus fully described the invention what is c aimed as new is:
In a hood for stoves, a back member having V-shaped sides and an arcuate top connecting the sides, the back member being provided with an outlet collar, the back member having its lower edge inturned and provided with a series of perforations by which it is secured to the stove, a plurality of segments pivoted to the back member,
said segments having V-shaped sides and being provided with in and outturned edges comprising lips, the lips of one segment being adapted to engage the lips of the opposite segment to which it is pivoted to support the segment, the lowermost segment being provided with a flexible element and the first segment being provided with a hook adapted for engagement with the flexible element.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
