GUN-SIGHT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DELVIN B. HARRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minturn, in the county of Madera, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gun-Sights; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to improvements in gun sights and is particularly intended as an improvement upon my United States Patent No. 891063, dated June 16, 1908.

The object of the invention is to produce a means for shooting a bird which has passed over the head of the gunner and is flying from him. The construction set forth in the above noted patent provides for passing birds and rising or incoming birds, but not for birds which have passed over head and away from the gunner. The sight must also be adjustable and detachable as are those described in the above patent and for similar reasons. This object I accomplish by means of a spring clip member slidably disposed on the barrel of the gun, a spring or wire member bowed upward over and above the barrel of the gun, a bead sight disposed on said wire member in alinement with the central line of the barrel of the gun; also by such other and further construction as will appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

Figure l is a perspective view of an automatic shot gun showing the improved sight thereon. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a double barreled shot gun. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the new sight as applied to the automatic gun or any such single barrel gun. Fig. 4C is a similar view of the rear sight used on such automatic gun in connection with said front sight. Figs. 5 and 6 are similar views showing the sights as used on a double barreled shot gun. Fig. 7 is a modification of the rear sight shown in Fig. 6.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings 1 designates the barrel of the gun and 2 the breech thereof.

Slidably mounted on the barrel of the gun is a spring clip member 3 and on the breech a spring clip member a. On the member 3 is a spring or wire member 5 arched or bowed over and above the barrel of the gun on which member 5 are two bead sights 6 spaced apart on either side of the central line of the barrel of the gun and a central sight 7 disposed in alinement with the central line of such barrel. On the clip 1nemher l is an apertured sight 8 having a top notch sight 9.

In using the gun when it is desired to shoot birds which have gone overhead and are flying from the gunner he sights through the bottom of the sight 8 and thence over the sight 7 onto the bird which line of sight being at an angle to the barrel of the gun, by reason of the arched member 5, when the gun is discharged, the bird, in due order of flight, comes within the pattern of the shot. The angle of sight of course must be regulated by the distance between the front and rear sights according to the class of birds being shot, which change of angle is accomnlished by means of the sliding feature of the clip members 3 and 4. The use of the other sights shown are fully set forth in my Patent No. 891063, hence no discussion of the same will be given here.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have produced a device which is an improvement over Patent No. 891063 since it provides for the shooting of birds going in a direction not provided for in such patent.

lVhile this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the invention, still in practice, such deviations from such detail may be made in practice as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described the invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A gun sight comprising the combination of a gun barrel, a spring member adjustable over the gun barrel, outwardly projecting arms on the upper ends of said spring mem- 5 sight disposed on said spring bow member centrally with respect to the barrel of the gun.
