Specicatio'n of Letters Patent.
Patentes een. ee, ioa.,
Appimuon nies :me 1o, 19er. ssi-iai No. evaaaa To all 'whom it may concern: Y
Be it known that I, JAMEs PHILLns LYNN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, .residing at Trafalgar, Kalgoorlie, State oi Western Australia, Commonwealth 'of Australia, have invented certain new and use- Improvements in Electromagnetic Stamp Batteries, of which the following is a specica tion.
This invention relates to 'battery stamps which are operated by electro magnets and includes means whereby an increased or spectively are given to the stamper; said means consist in enlarging that portion of the stem which passes through the electro malgnets.
he second feature of the invention consists ofthe improved' means whereby the vertical osition of the ma ets is adjusted so as to ecp such enlargeportions within the area of effective influence of the magnets so as to counteract any variation in the position ofv such would result from heads and dies.
In order that the construction and operation oi my invention may be clearly understood reference will be made to the attached drawing which shows the invention as a plied to a two head stamp battery, said attery being denoted b -its parts as stems a and al, the heads a, t e crushing or false heads a?, the dies a, the box o5 and framing o.
Reverting to said drawing the rst essential feature of my invention consists in formin portions of the stamper stems o and ol of enlarged diameters as b and b1 and c and c1; said enlarged diameters may either be formed one and inte al with their stems or may be rigidl attac ed thereto in the' form of sleevesn lhasa enlar ed portions are formed on those parts of t e stems a and el which ass through or work within the cores as c o the upper electro magnets h2 and cS and the lowerelectro magnets t3 and c the enlarged portions which the wear of the crushing purpose being to thereby obtain an in? creased body or area for the linesof force when the magnets become energized. The lower magnets as t and ca are jred in posiu tion to the frame a6 of the batte as shown.
The second essential feature o the invention consists in the means for adjusting the position or the upper magnets bf* and c in relation to rthe upper enlarged portions t and c; of the stems a and o* in order to main# and Idown fall retain said enlarged portions within the 'eectjf 'ive area of influence of their magnets t@ and c1 and irrespective fof the wear of the false heads ce 'and shoes at and es before stated. These adustment means of screw threaded flanged sleeves as d one of which is shown in 'section in the draws ing. The upper magnets are superimposed upon said sleeves bein secured thereto ley the bolts ell. These s eeves with then tached ma ets are vertically ad'u'stable and adapted-Fluo be raised and lowere by the e erative screw lthreaded s ownin section and rotated b bar Whose end is placed in t recesses el.
A Washer platef made common to ail the blocks e is interposed between same and the transverse guide stay f1 which latter is secured to the battery frame a by the bolts f.
In the organization of the .stamp or bat tery an electric make and brealr ppliance is employed so as to effect the desire sequence of lift and drop for a plurality of stampers as a and a1.
-In the accompanying drawing, g is a battery, which by the wires g1 and 1 is in electric circuit with the electro-magnets b9 and c2, the said batter g being provided with a commutator h which is rotated by any suit-l able means from the engine power shaftn The .rotation of the said commutator results in an intermittent make and break of circuit being given to said magnets bs and c so that any Asuitable e peripheral block or nuts e the latter are mutually energized and denerm l gized at the same time. The companion magnets b and c3 are also in circuit with a battery y'through the medium of the Wires and jg, said battery j being also provided wit a commutator 7c `which is operated in the same manner as the coutator it and with the result that an intermittent maire and break oicircuit is given to the companion. masts iii, cs and the latter are mutuall an simultaneously energized or deenergizeuo shown in the drawing, themagnets t2 and cS are mutuaily energized while the companion meets b3 ande2 are mutually de energized, tereby causing the stamper o to be lifted by the energized magnet b2 and concurrently allovvin the companion etamper o1 to fall and be pued down by the energized ma et ci. A
i e operation oi the invention is as iollows:
Assumethat it is desired to lift the stem e with its parte. The upper magnet t2 is then I energized While the tower magnet b3 remains sized magnet b3 upon the lower eniaigedpaijt 1 of the stem a, with the result thet e maximum heavy blow in excess oi that by gtavity is given to the material to he crushedk'm the box o5. It is obvious that the current of the magnet b3 is in a dieient direction to that oi' the magnet b2 so as to obtain the down null, also thet when stem o is being iaised or ioweied the op osito o eration is proceeding in res` ect of tl e neighliior stem al.
What claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent iszenlarged portions recipiooate,
l, in an eiectromagnetic stamp betteiy, stamp stems having enlarged sieeveseech carrying a magnet in vv ich sei and meens for Ymesses..
ostions stesse ecijusting said sleeves to maintain the eniaiged. portions Within the operative iniiuenoe of said magnets.
2, En en eieotro magnetic stamp battery, stamp stems having eniarged ortions vsleeves each caiiying e magnetin W ich sai y y and threaded enlarged portions ieoipro-cate, iotetebie devices engaging the sieeves for vertically adjusting the latter to maintain the enierged oitions of the stems within the operative in uence of the magnets.
3. An eiectio-magnetic battery comprising dies, stamp heads having stems with eniaiged portions, sieeves having nuts for verticeiiy adjusting the sleeves, said sleeves cering tippe? magnets, the enlarged portions o; the stems coo erating with the said u per magnets, and ot er lower magnets also aving portions oi the stems in cooperative rela- -tion thereto.
