UNITED STATES PATENT FICE.
SETH H. LEAOH, OF KANSASQITY, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR 'lO WILLIAM VOLKER, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
UNIT SHADE-ROLLER PACKAGE.
Application filed November 16, 1908.
Specification 01' Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 26, 1909.
Serial No. 462,888.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SETH II. LEAoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Unit Shade-Roller Packages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to what I term a unit shade-roller package, and my object is to produce a single package of this character embodying a shade-roller and a box containing the fixtures, fastening devices for such fixtures, and the pull for the shade.
A further object is to provide means for sealing a package of this character.
With these objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel and particular features of construction and organization as hereinafter described; and in order that it may be fully understood reference is to be had in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a part of a rolled shade, a box to contain the shade-roller fixtures and nails or screws and a pull for the shade, if desired, said figure also disclosing a part of a binder to secure the box on one end of and in alinement with the shade, a part of a wrapper to inclose the entire shade and binder, and a seal to secure the Wrapper in place and thus complete the package. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the rolled shade, the box fitted on one end of the same and the binder for securing the box in position upon the end of said rolled shade. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the completed binder forming a part of the invention. Fig. 4 is an enlarged plan view showing one end of the completed unit package.
In the said drawings 1 indicates the shaderoller and 2 the shade rolled or wound thereon.
3 is abox to contain the shade fixtures and the nails or screws for securing the fixtures to a window casing and also a shade pull if desired, the flap or mouth end of said box being adapted to receive one end of the shaderoller as shown in Fig. 2, said box being arranged in alinement with the roller, as also shown clearly in Fig. 2.
4 is a binder which preferably will be a piece of waste shade fabric, though it may be of any other tough flexible sheet material, this binder being adapted to be Wrapped or folded around the box and the adjacent end of the rolled shade so as to form in effect, a cylindrical cap to hold the box in the position described.
5 indicates a sheet of wrapping pa er of sufficient size to be wrapped or role completely around the shade and also completely envelop the binder as shown in Fig. i, and 6 is a seal to be wrapped around the wra per at one end so as to fasten the same reliab y in place, the said seal being preferably provided at one end with adhesive substance as indicated at 7, to be moistened in order that it may be caused to adhere to the body of the seal after the latter is wrapped tightly around the package to prevent the wrapper thereof from unwrapping.
A unit package of this character will be found of great convenience to householders and also jobbers and retailers, as the former will not have to remember to call for fixtures and the tacks or screws for same, the seller, of course, being saved the trouble of handling and wrapping a second package to go with each shade sold. The purchaser is also protected, in that the seal may contain the trade-mark identifying the manufacturers product and the latter is protected in a degree, against any dealer supplying shades to the purchaser, of some other manufacture than those desired.
From the above description it will be apparent that I have roduced a unit shaderoller package embo ying the features of advantage enumerated as desirable and which obviously is susceptible of modification in minor particulars without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A unit shade-roller package, comprising a shade-roller equipped with a shade rolled or wound thereon, a box fitting endwise against said shade-roller, a binder inclosing the box and a portion of the contiguous end of the rolled shade, and means to fasten the binder in place.
2. A unit shade-roller ackage, comprising a shade roller, a shade r0 led or wound thereon, a box fitting endwise against said shaderoller, a binder inclosing the box and a ortion of the contiguous end of the r0 led shade, means to fasten the binder upon said rolled shade, a Wra per completely enveloprolled shade, and a seal secured around the 10 ing the rolled sha e and said binder, Wrapper to prevent the same from unwrapmeans to fasten the Wrapper in position. ping. e
