Re it Known that l, @nannies l?. PLUMMnn, .'ti, .1f i )V 'i vein s, 1: .i ei ,man `n n. nnd im.. es oi i inerme, ie the county el' Wortesvented eert Y ew and `useful improvements in Morse tflasp Fasteners; and do hereby declare that the i'ollowin is a iull, clear, and
errant description oi' the same, reference being 1 had to the aooompanying drawings, and to the (',liaraoters of `reference marked thereon,
' vided with spaced side hars 12 and formedv which forni a part of this specification.
rThis invention rela-'tes to corset or analogous olas i fasteners.
The principal objeet of the present inven` tion is to provide a. fastener intended for cor-` sets or other analogous articles that is very simple in ooilstruetion, is readily applioable to the goods,` and when operated to `tasten two parts together, will have a drawing ao tion whiohwill bring `suoli vparts toward eaeh other with ease and expedition. i
'Afurther and important `object is to pro vide novel` and elleotive means` of an exceedinglyv simple Character which will holdlthe parts against movement and thus prevent them Jfrom becoming,aoeidentally disengaged.
In the accompanying dizawingsz-fFigure `1 illust-rates thejlastener `as applied and in operative position; Fie.` is aplan view of the two elements separated; 3, is' `an edge view of sueh elements; Fig. 4 is an end view ofthesame. l M
The fastener consists oi'an eye elementfll and a hook elementl 2. `The eve Aelementooniprises a flat piece Nof metal 3 having` spaced openings 4 in one end, by means oi which the element can be fastenedto one oi the arts to be'eonneeted, as 5. The other end of the element has an oblong opening 6 throufrhit 'forming the eye.
The
plate 7 of sheet metal provided in one end with 'fastener reoeiving openings S ain haw `posed ears at one end with an opening end. A pintle 10, engaged in the ears,
bridges the space between them, and. pivotally mounted on the pintle is aloombined hook` and lever. This hook and lever is shown as formed of a looped Wire 11 prossaelinsette, have hook element 7 consists oi' abase;
into angulo-ily disposed long and short arms 1 3 and 1.4. The short arms are nivoted at their ends on the pintle 10|; the llong arms are free. Outstanding i'roiii the base plate 7 opposite the eerst) is a. stud 15 whien, as shown .in Fig. 4, is prmfided in its opposite sides with sockets 1S, the outer end being rounded, as shown. in this figure.
The inai'iner of using the device is suhstantially as follows: The element 1 is secured to one of the two parts to he oonneoted; the ele ment 2 is fastened tothe other part. When these parte art to he hold together, the free end of the hook and lever 1l is passed through the eye (i and is then swung reap wal-diy, whereupon the eye will slide down until engaged by the angular arnis 13. Conseqnentiy, the eye element will he drawn toward` the hase '7 .of the hook element. 0n the continued movement of the arms 14 they will embraee the outer end of the stud 1.5 and spring apart sui'lioiently to pass over the head thereof, whereupon they will engage in the seats 16, thus preventing the accidental outward movement of the hook and lever.
The construction disclosed is clearly onethat can be cheaply `manufactured and readily applied `to the goods. Moreover, when` it is o berated` to fasten two parts to. gether, it will have a drawingA action that will bring such parts toward each other without thev expenditure of any great force. 'In ad-- dition ito this, when the two parts are seoured` together, the stud, by eil'eotively pren venting the outwardswinging movement of the hook, insures that the parts Will remain seoured until manually manipulated to free them.
Having thus described -iny invention, what I. olaiin new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
A fastener comprising an eye member with an opening therein, a securing member consisting' of a plate ,havingl oppositely distherehetween, a pintle extending across said opening and secured to the ears,a lever bent in U-shape form and provided with 'parallel arms having their terminals pivoted to said pintle, said arms being bent adjacent its pivotal Connection to form a hook to en gage the opening of said eye member, -and sprung onto the .stud so as to engage the said lever servmg lto he swung on the pintle sockets, substantially as speciied.
so aste draw the eye member on the up er l W surface of the fastening member, a vertixal CHAHLES F' PLUMMLR' 5 stud on the outer end of the fastening mem- Witnesses:
ber hav-ing sockets on the opposite sides, O. A. TAFT,
.and vsaid arms of the lever serving to be H. W. RUGG.
