To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Anvm CARROLL Gonpm, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Long Island 5 City, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Trim Fastening, of
' which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. I
Ihe invention relates to metal doors, windows, base-boards and like structures, and its object is to provide a new and improved trim or molding fastening, more especially designed for securely and uickly fastening trimmings or moldings in p ace without the use of screws, rivets or similar fastening devices, and without showing exterior projections, holes, marks or the like.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same,
which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corres onding parts in all the views.
of the panel B are struck-up lugs A adapted to receive flanges C formed on the moldin C adapted to rest on the faces of the panel and on the face of the side A, it being understood that the flanges C are driven in between the face of the side A andthe inner faces of the struck-up lugs A, and the contacting portions of the flanges O and the lugs A are rovided with interlocking teeth, to securely old the molding or trimming C ement described the molding or trimming O is locked in place .without the use of screws, rivets or similar fastening devices, and it is only necessary for the operator-to drive the toothed flanges 0 m (position between the face of the side A an the lugs A, as above explained.
The j amb D of the door opening E is pro vided at each end with a ocket D having 1ts outer member formed with teeth D' at g the inside, and into each pocket is driven the toothed flange F of the trim F, so as to securely interlock the flange F and the pocket D with each other, as will be readily seen by reference to Figs. 1 and 3. The other end of the trim F is formed with a pocket F having a toothed member and into the pocket extends the toothed e G of a bracket G attached to the wall E, as indicated in F 1.
Instead of providi the interloc members with teeth, as s own in Figs. 1 an 3 and described above, the interlocking members may be corrugated, for instance as shown in Fig. 4, the receiving member or.
support H is formed with a pocket H into which is driven the flange I of the molding I, the flange I having a corru ated ortion I and the outer member of t e poc t H having a corrugated portion H meshing with one of the corrugations 1' whenever the corruglated portion of the flange I is driven into t e pocket.
The trim or molding fasteni shown and described can be very cheap y manufactured, and the moldings or trimmings can be securely attached to their supports, without the use of special fastening devices which are liable to mar the appearance of the door, window or like structure on which the molding is applied.
Having thus described my invention, I gaim as new and desire to secure by Letters atent:
1. A trim fastening comprising a trim,
a support one having a flange provided with a series of interlocking projections, and the other having spaced members between which passes the flange, one of said spaced members having interlocking means for engagement with the interlocking projections of the flange.
2. A trim fastening, com rising a trim having a flange provided wit a series of in-.
terlockmg projections, and a support for the trim having spaced members between which pea'sses the flange, one of said spaced memrs having interlocking means, for engagement with the projections of the flange when the latter is forced between the sai members.
3. A trim fastening, comprising a trim having a toothed flan e, an 2 support for the trim havin struc -up lus toothed on the inner face, t c said flange lng ada ted to pass between the said su port an its struck-up lugs, the teeth of t e flan e and the teeth of the lugs interlocking wit each other.
4. A'door, comprising cross bars and sides, each having struck-up toothed lugs on their inner faces, panels interlocked with the inner faces of the cross bars and sides, and moldings having toothed flanges driven between the said inner faces and the struck-up lugs, the teeth of the flanges and lugs interlocking with each other.
5. In combination with 'a door, window, base board and like structure, a trim, the said structure and the said trim having members provided on their contacting surfaces with interlocking teeth.
v6. A trim fastening, comprising a trim, and a support, one having a flange and the other spaced members between which passes the flange, the flange and one of said memcoasts tions wit interlocking teeth.
7. A trim fastening, comprising a trim having a flange, and a support for the trim having spaced members between which the flange is adapted to be driven, the said flange and the inner face ofthe outer one of said spaced members being provided with integral interlocking means adapted to engage each other when the flange is forcedbetween the said members.
8. A trim fastening comprising-a trim, and a support, one having a flange and the other spaced members between which passes the flange, the said flange and one of the spaced members havlng interlocking means adapted to engage each other \when the parts are forced together, the interlocking means beingarranged to hold the flange and the spaced members in adjustable relation to each other.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALV I N CARROLL GODDARD.
