HENRY D. ZEHRBAOH, OFBLUFFTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T0 ADAM D. LUGIBIHL. OF BLUFFTON, OHIO.
CAS'IING.
Specifieation of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 5, 1909.
T0 all whom z't may concern:
Be it known tha.t I, HENRY D. ZEHRBACH, a. citizen of the United Stabes, residing at Bluflton, in the eounty of Allen and State 0f Ohio, have invented 9. new and useful Casting, of which the following is a specification.
'l bis invention relates 00 sight glasses f0r cream separators and has for its object to provide a comparatively simple and inexpensive device 01 this charaeter especially designed for attaehment t0 gravity cream separators to permit inspection of the 0011- tenos 0f the milk containing vessel cluring the separatin process.
A further 0 ject of the invention is t0 provide a frame 01 casting having a. seat 011 one side thereof for the reception 0f a. sight gla.ss and provi0lecl at ios lower end with an opening the interior Walls of which are threaded for enga erneut with a faucet.
A furt er object is 110 provide a link for retaining the sight glass to its seat in the casv ing, and means for loeking the link a.gainst aceidental displacement.
Further objects and advantages Will appear in the following description, it being understood that various ehanges in form, proportions anal minor details 0f construction may be resorted 130 within the scope of the apgended claims.
In t e aqcompanying drawings f0r ming a part 0f this specificationz-Figure 1 is a. lon gitudinal sectional view 0f a combined sight glass and faucet seat constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the same in position 0n a cream separator. Fig. 2 is a fr0nt elevati on of the same With the faucet removed. Fig. 3 is a. detail perspective view 0f the sup orting frame 01 casting detached, the sight g ass ancl retaining link being shown detached from the casting.
Similar numerals 0f reference indicate 001- responcling parts in all of the figures 01 the drawings.
The sight glass forming the subject matter of the reseno invention is principally designed or attaehment 110 that dass of cream separators in Whi0h a single vessel is employed f0r conta.ining the milk and water, anci in Fig. 1 of the drawings is shown in in which 5 designates the liquid containing vessel having an inclined bottom 6 and provided with a depending supporting flange 7.
The device consists 0f a supporting frame er casting 8 having adapted to bear against the exterior Wall 0f the recepacle 5 and provi0led with a lateral extension 10 which projects within the recepoaele 5, es shown, alle metal around the opening in the receptacle 5 being bent laterally and sol0lered 01 otherwise rigidly secured o0 the extension 10, as indicated ab 11.
Projeeting inwardly from the casting 8 at the extension 10 is a flange 12 whioh forms 9. seat for a sight glass 13, t-he lauter being retained in osition 011 the flange 12 by a hollow frame 01 link 14.
Formed in the end Walls of ehe extension 10 are recesses 15 in which are solderecl o1 otherwise secured suitable locking lugs 16, the terminals 01 which are adapted '00 be bent downwardly in conta0t with the link 14, thereby t0 retain seid link in engagement with the glass 13 and prevent aecidental dis placernent 0f the latter during transportation er shipment 01 the separator.
The l0wer encl'of the easting 8 is curved 01" roundecl ab 17 and provided with a centrally disposed 0 ening 18, the interior Walls ef whioh are t 11eacle0l for engagement Wibh the correspondingly threaded terminal 01 0 fau0et 19.
The bottom 01 the receptacle 5 at the threadecl end 01 the faucet is deflected downwardly at 20 so as t0 permio the cream in the reeeptacle 5 t0 be readily drawn off through the faucet when ehe latter is moved to open position.
The face 0f the casting 8 at tl1e eurved portion thereof is out away t0 produce horizontally alined recesses 21 a.da ted o0 receive the reinforcing beacl 22 0'l? t e bottom 6, thereby t0 assist in retaining the castingin proper osition 011 the containing vessel.
In assembling the several parts an opening is first formecl in the receptacle 5, after Wl1i0h the casting 8 is introduced within the opening With ehe flange 9 bearing against the exterior Walls 01 the reeepta.cle and with the extension 10 projecting within the said receptacle, as best shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The glass is then positioned 011 the flange 12 and the link 14 moved laterally in engagement with the rear face 01' ohe glass, afoer which a. small quantity 0f putty, cement 01 other adhesive material is introduced within a. margmal fiange 9 having a flange adapted exte1ior Wall 0f alle vessel and provided With the seating r ecess and tl1e lugs 16 prssec'l laterally agamst the reaf fa :e 0l ehe link, thereby t0 retain the link and sightglass in position on the casting. After the parts are thus assembled, the faucet 19 is screwed into the opening 18 in ehe usual manner.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a combined sight glass seat and faucet seat capable 0f being readily attached to a separat0r employing a single liquid conoaining Vessel and in which liability of breakage of the sight glass is reduced to a minimum, and a firm anchorage formed for the fauceo, thus obviating the necessity of soldering the faucet 0n the containing vessel and the employment of metal gages heretofore used 0n this dass of cream separators.
