To au whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that l, Fnaxn 0. Bonus, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dub t ne, in the county of Dubuque and State of own, have invented certain new and use g ful Improvement-s in Car-Door Fasteners, of f which the following is a iiication.
My invention has relation to fasteners for car doors with special reference to sliding i doors and has for lts object t-o automat-ical] double lock and seal the door and also furnish means for operating the double lock and thedoor.
In w t it consists, its mode of construct-ion and manner of operation will be fuill' described and shown in the following spec cation and drawings accompanying the same and forming a part hereof.
1, is l. side elevation of a car door cl and locked with my device thereon. Eig. 2, shows the same with e door partly open. 3, is e perspective view of the handle. 4, is a. perspective view of the catch with the hook in engagement therewith Fig. 5, is a e 've view ofFig. 4, takenfr m one en ig.6,is a perspective view of one of the hooks. 7, is the top view of the door and jamb wi the device 1n -ion andthe door and jamb in section, and 23, a staple to which a hook is pivoted.

This staple acts as arest orthehookwhenitisin withthe catch orwhenthe dooris w. when the door is opened. The opposite end ofthehookisbentdownwardatandprovidedwithano a 10. 4'llresetvvohoolrs 4 are connec together b a bar 12 to which they are pivoted near t oir centers by the pivot pins 14 and 15.

For the purpose of raising these hooks out of the catches or locks there is provided a handle which is pivoted to the door l by a staple 32 similar to the staple 5 to which is ivoted the hooks 4. The handle is provi ed in one side with a projecting plate 34 having a hole 35 therethrough in which is pivoted a lever 36 that is also ivoted at its opposite end to the har 1'2 and ower hook 4. It xs manifest that on small doors one hook and catch may be all that is nec-essa and in that case the lever 36 would be lvoted directly to the hook. The handle 3 is also provided with an opening therethrough for meel-ting the hand of the operator, not only to operate the hooks but also to o n the door. There is also secured to the ase of the handle or integral therewith a plate 40 across which is a. strap or loop 42 for the urose of limiting the movements of the liane and to stay it in a given position. It is also limited in one direction by the staple 32. 'Iheremayalsobesecuxedtothedoorahandle 45 for opening and closing the door when neceary.
The manner of operating my device is substantially as follows: Starting with the door closed and the hooks in engagement with the catches, the operator y the hurdle and moves it o the which action forces the lever 36 against the bar 12 andiiftsthetwohookaoutof ment with the catches 20. The further move nntlof the handle 30 to the bring t pate-tilintoementwi eioop 42 and revent an movement of thehan einthnt 'onbutthefnrther premura upon the handle will shove the door oenanditwillthenhaveappearaneeas wninFig. 2. Whenitlsdeairedto close the door the operator may grasp the handle 45 and push the door together and as the door closes together the wht of the handle 30 together with the v' hooks and the bai. 12 with the lever 36 will bring the hooks into engagement with the hole 2S in the catches 20. o ator thenthesealthrong'hthe lol() in the hook 4 and the hole 28 in the catch 20.

2. In a cur-door fastener, a hook, n staple to which the hook is pivoted nt one end and l having means connected with the staple to limit the movement of the hook in one direct-ion said hook provided with an open'n near the point of the hook, n handle plvotet to the door and provided with n pluie in one side, a lever pivoted to the plate and to the central part of the hook, tu combination with a catch secured to the jnmb of the;
