RAILWAY-TIE 'specification of Letters Patent. l
Patented Dec. 29, 1908.
Application filed October 2, 1907. Serial No. 395,556.
To all 'whom it lmay concern: Be it known that I, BLooM V. KAGA, a citizen of the United States, residing at: Rockaway, in the county' of Senecaand @tite of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful 'Improvements in Railway-Titi' of which the following is a specifcatioih/ My invention relates to an' improvement in steel ties, and the object is to provide a hollow tie having supporting plates over the top adapted to strengthen the tie and sustain` the weight of the rails. and the rolling stock traveling thereon. Y
The invention consists in certain other novel features of construction and coinbination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 :2 is alongitudinal sectional view; and Fig. 3 is an end view. f
,A represents the hollow U shaped metal tie and l is an opening formed iu the bottom of the t-ie to permit water to issue tl'lrough. Plates 2, 2 uentend across the top of the tie and lt int-he notches B, B in Athe sides of the tie 'and have flanges 3, 3 which extend down over the sides and bolts al passing there through secure them to the tie. EX tending downwardly from the plates 2 at their-.inner ends is a' brace 5, which fits against thesides of the t-ie and extends to or alon'gthe bottom thereof and affords a support for the plates as well as the sides of the tie preventing them from collapsing, flanges 3 on the plate the tie is prevented from spreading. The ridge 6 is formed on vthe'plates against which can oe very i adil' vthe sides of the tie which the rails a tait and slots 8 are formed on the plates for the reception of bolts 9 which extend through clamps l0, 10 and the latter overlap the l'ialiges off the rail and rest diagonally against the weh whereby the rail rin'idl'v held in position.
This tic can he used for any size rail and the plates 2 may he adjusted of the tie to suit the requirements. ,l't can b'e inauu'lictmed cheaply i consists of t'ew parts which are simple in coi`\"-ructiou and lt is' evident hf ".i made in the f' several parte bed from the spiri and scope and hence .l do not desire f the departing invention, e limit myself to the exact gonstruction herein set' forth,
