To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, rlARvEY SEWARD, citizen of the United States, residing at letersburg, county of Dinwiddie, and btate of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Tray-handles, of which the following is a specification, reference bang had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates toa tray handle, and particularly to a construction adapted to lie liush with the upper surface of the trunk tray and to embrace the sides thereof.

lhe invention has for an object to form a handle from a single blank having a tubular central portion disposed in alinement with a proper recess m the trunk tray wall, while the opposite ends thereof are disposed in parallel planes to embrace a wall of the tray and thus resist lateral strain while providing the necessary rigidity in the intermediate portion of the handle.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.

Like numerals refer to like parts in the several views of the drawing. The numeral 10 indicates a blank of suitable material, preferably sheet metal, which is The side edges 13 of this blank are bent inn termediate of the ends to form a tubular portion 14, as shown in Fig. 2, while at the free ends of the handle the side edges 13 are disposed in parallel planes separated from each other as shown at 15 so as to embrace the wall 16 of the tray or other object to which the handle is applied. This wall is provided with the recess or cutaway portion 17 in alinement with the tubular portion 14 of the handle. The tubular portion is merged into the flanged portion by the curved face 18. This handle is adapted to be applied to a trunk tray or any other desired receptacle Whee it is essential that the uplper surface thereof be substantially flush with the top of the receptacle or disposed in a straight line, and the construction here shown provides for a tubular hand hold which not only aHords a convenient grip but also stiffens and braces this portion to prevent bending thereof when made of light sheet metal which is liable to occur if the receptacle is weighted. The parallel end .flanges 15 by embracing the opposite sides of thewall to which they are applied resist any lateral strain and thereby reduce the strain upon the holding devices passing through the upper surface of the handle. The invention therefore presents a simple, efficient and economically constructed form of handle adapted to be formed from a single blank and to be readily bent into the form shown which provides rigidity of the handle and means for securely attaching it to the receptacle upon which it is applied.

Having described my invention and set forth its merits what I claim and desire to secure by Letters ratent isz,-

1. A tray handle comprising a plate having a straight upper ace and the side edges at its opposite end portions bent at an angle thereto and extended parallel to and separated from each other, and its intermediate portion formed of tubular cross section.'

2. A tray handle comprising a plate having its side edges in contact to form a tubular portion intermediate of its ends and said ends bent at an angle to the body of the plate and parallel to each other to form embracing flanges thereon.

3. A tray handle comprising a plate having its side edges intermediate of the ends in contact with each other to form a transversely elongated tubular portion, and merging into parallel angularly disposed flanges separated from each other and extended laterally from each end of the intermediate tubular portion of the plate.
