M. EBERT. V LOCKING DEVICE FOR GOUKS' WITH- EXGHANGBABLE LOOK.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 3, 1908.

LOCKING DEVICE FOR COCKS WITH EXCHANGEABLE LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 3, 1908.
Patented Dec. 22, 1908.
Serial No. 424,885.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX EBERT, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Berlin, N. Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Looking Devices for Cocks with Exchangeable Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved looking device for cocks with exchangeable lock, which prevents an unauthorized turning of the cock, in open or closed position of the latter.
From the known locking devices of similar kind the subject matter of the present invention is distinct in that the lock is shifted from up above between two extensions which are laterally disposed on the casing of the cock and provided with grooves the lock being guided by ledges fitting said grooves. The lock when in position is covered by a projection serving as abutment for the bolt of the lock so that the lock can not be removed unless the cock proper is taken out of the casing.
In the accompanying drawing, Figures 1 and 2 are an elevation and plan respectively, of a cock provided with the improved locking device, while Figs. 3 and 4 show similar views, of the lock alone.
A look d which is adapted to the shape of the cock proper a and fitted with two ledges b and with supporting studs 0, isupon the cock proper being taken outshifted from up above between two extensions g which are laterally disposed on the casing of the cock and provided with grooves 12 corresponding to the ledges b of the lock and connected at their lower part by a wall f, the lock being firmly connected with the cock by two screws h which pass through holes in the supporting studs 0 of the lock and in the extensions g of the casing. On the cock proper a the projection i is provided in such a way that the same is arrested, in the open or closed position of the cock proper, by the bolt 7c of the closed lock (1 in that said bolt engages notches 0 in the projection i. In this way, the bolt is is wholly covered and invisible. At the same time one of the screws h which serve to fix the lock in the cock, is covered by the projection i. The movable guard of the lock, is on its free end bent to form an eye for the purpose of preventing an unauthorized unlocking of the look by the arrangement of a lead-seal between said eye and two eyes m provided on the look. In the same way, in order to prevent an unauthorized removal of the cock proper another lead-seal may be passed through the hole '12 provided in the lower projecting end of the cock proper.
Having fully described my .invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A locking device for cocks with exchange- .able lock, comprising in combination with the cock proper having a projection and the casing of said cock having two grooved extensions; the lock proper having a bolt and ledges and designed to be shifted with the latter between said grooved extensions and when inserted to be covered by the projection on said cock, said projection serving as abutment for the bolt of said look so as to prevent said look from being removed without taking out said cock.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAX EBERT.
Witnesses HENRY HASPER, WOLDEMAR HAUPT.
