To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WALTER C. MORRIS, a subject of the King of England, and a resident of New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptlon.

This invention relates more particularly to a device adapted to hold cuffs and articles of a similar character.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a simple and efiicient device which is adapted to be colla sed in order that it may be packed in a smallspace for transportation purposes, being more particularly adapted or the use of traveling men, and which device may be 0 ened and made to positively clamp and ho d a number of cufis or other articles in such a way that the latter may be supported or held upon a suitable hanger.

A further object of the invention is to rovide a cylindrical collapsible device W 'ch may be readily made, and which is adapted to hold articles of various sizes.

With these and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification and will then be pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is an end elevation, on an enlarged scale, of one form of holder embodying my invention; and Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the holder.

The holder 10 comprises a lurality of bars, strips or members 11 which are pivotally held together centrally thereof in pairs, as at 12, and each member is curved so that when the members are joined together as shown it will form substantially a cylindrical body. Each bar or member extends transversely of the member to which it is pivoted, and each member is pivoted at 13 to the member of the next pair throughout the entire series of members. By arranging the members in a zig-zag way as shown it will be seen that the ivots 12 and 13 will permit the holder to e opened, in which case the pivots 13 will be brought closer together, and when the members are collapsed or forced together so as to make the holder occupy a small space, the said ivoting points or ends of the members will e spread apart on opposite sides of the circumferential center.

To hold the parts in clamping position and Q to normally force them to a closed or collapsed position, I provide an elastic band 14 or other device which extends circumferentially around the members over the pivoting points 12. This band 14 serves to old the articles placed in the device in such a way that they will not fall out, but will permit the same, to be readily removed in case it is desired to do so. The articles may be passed through the holder as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and said holder may be provided with a hook or other means 15 to adapt the same to be supported from a hanger or other su port.

rom the foregoing it will be seen that a simple and efiicient device is provided in Which cuffs, collars or other articles may be placed and held, and which is adapted to be opened to various extents to accommodate different sizes of articles, and which may be readily collapsed for packing in a small space when not in use.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A holder of the character described, comprising a plurality of members pivotally held together in pairs centrally thereof and each member pivoted at its ends to members of the next pair adjacent thereto so as to be arranged in a zig-zag Way, and an elastic band arranged around the members centrally thereof for the purpose set forth.

3. A substantially cylindrical holder comprising a plurality of bars ivotally held together in pairs pivoted at t eir ends to members of the airs adjacent thereto so as to permit the ho der to be expanded or collapsed.

4. A cylindrical holder comprising a plurality of bars pivotally held together in pairs centrally thereof and pivoted at their ends to members of the pairs adj acentthereto so as to permit the holder to be expanded or collapsed, and an elastic band arranged around the members for the purpose set forth.

5. As an article of manufacture, a substantially cylindrical garment holder comprising a plurality of members pivotally held together between the ends thereof in pairs so as to extend transversely of each other and having their ends pivoted to the next pair of members adjacent thereto to permit said members to be spread apart or moved to-- gether to open or collapse said holder, an elastic band circumferentially arranged around the. holder centrally thereof, and a hook for supporting the holder.

6. As an article of manufacture, a substantially cylindrical garment holder comprising a plurality of members pivotally held tol gether between the ends thereof in pairs so as to extend transversely of each other and having" their ends pivoted to the next pair of members adjacent thereto to permit said members to be spread apart or moved to- 15 gether to 0 en or collapse said holder, and an elastic and circumferentially arranged around the holder centrally thereof.
