To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SHIRLEY VALJEAN WRIGHT, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a paper box de signed to be constructed from a single blank and providedwith adischarge spout which folds Within the box and when folded forms a cover which will exclude dirt and dust and which when open makes a convenient spout for the discharge of the contents of the box.

The box is especially designed for cereals, flour, coffee, spices and articles in a powdered form.

The invention consists of the novel fea- .tures of construction hereinafter described,

pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the box, the spout being open. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank from which the box is formed.

Fig. 3 is a plan view of the complete box closed. Fig. 4: is a horizontal section taken through the box. Fig. 5 is a section ou they line 5 5 of Fig. 3. Figg is a detail view partly in section showinga locking finger carried by the spout.

In forming the box I provide a blankflA, the body portion of which forms the sides of the box and this blank is folded length-` tom flaps being supported by the overlapping bottom portions D. Top portions, E, E', and E2 are likewise formed upon the ,side of the blank opposite the bottom portions, the top flap E2 having one corner segmentally out away. End portions E4 are also cut out, the cut-out portions being entirelyiremoved from one. of these end portions while adjacent the'other a semi-circular iap F is left, which when the box is folded is folded centrally and transversely upon itself to form a spout. - ends of the body portion are bent to form small end flaps H and the end portion H adjacent the spout portion F has an opening G cut in the corner adjacent the line of fold of the spout F and at this end of the blank one of the bottom portions is entirely removed as shown at D2. This leaves the end portion H as an extra fifth side.

When the box is folded the body portion A. forms the sides, the bottom being formed by the bottom portions D and D and the top by the folding over of the top portions E, E and E2. One of the cut-out top flaps E4 folds inwardly upon the under side of the top while the other one folds over upon the top portion E2, its curved edge resting parallel to but a slight distance from the curved edge of the cut-out portion of said top portion E2. When the spout F is folded down as shown in Fig. 3 it rests upon this marginal'portion of the top portion E2, the top of the spout when closed lying flush with the top of the outer flap Ef. To hold the spout in a closed position and-to form a guide for one side of the spout to Work in, a fifth side H is folded over the end of the box adjacent said spout and a space is thereby formed between said end portion H and the body portion A in which aside of the Ispout works and is provided with a finger F which engages the under side of the box top when the spout is drawn out, thereby limiting loutward movement of the spout and preventing it from being entirely withdrawn from the guide way in which it works.

Having thus fully described my invention,

what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z- A box having a to formed of a plurality of flaps, a portion o which are segmentally out out, one of said cut out flaps folding over the other and leaving a curved marginal portion upon the under flap exposed, and a folding spout carried by the box, and resting -when folded on said marginal portion, the top of lthespout being flush with the upper flap.
