To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OscAR ROWLE'IT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maysville, in the county of. Dekalb and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Railroad-Tie, of which the following is a specification. I a
This invention relates to metal ties for rails, more particularly on bridges, although they can as readily be employed on the ground as are wooden ties.
The object of the invention is to cast, roll or otherwise. construct metal railroad ties,
each having a central vertical web and a top and bottom horizontal flange, said ties having about the same dimensions as ordinary Wooden ties. f
To the ties are secured the railroad rails by novel connections, and the ties are in turn connected together by long bolts or rodspassing through spacing pieces which regulate the distance between ties.-
A further object of the invention is directed to the manner of fastening the ties to the bridge beams so that, while holding tightly thereto, they may be quickly released therefrom and from the rails. and a new tie as easily substituted.

The sides of the pins 9 which enter the apertures 8, are preferably rectangular, the head of each having a projecting finger 14 which enfish plate and by means of the connection, heretofore described, the rails are held .securelyfastened to the ties. Where an addition of straight rail forming a part of a turnout, for instance, lies close to the main rail, a pin 15 is used having a projecting finger 14 on each side of its head to engage both rails, see Fig. 1.
The ties are prevented from slipping or creeping on the beams by means of longbolts or rods 16 of varying lengths, some of which may extend from tie to tie only, while others theirflength.
