BUTTER MOLD AND CUTTER;
Specincation of Letters Patent.
PatentedNov. 17, 1908.
Application filed September 26, 1907. Serial No. 394,603.
Reference may be had to the accompany ing drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon, which form a partof this specification. Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein. Figure l of the drawings is a View in perspective of my improved butter-moldand-cutter complete. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the supporting base of the same. Fig. 3 is a central, vertical, longitudinal, section of the device complete. Fig. 4 is a View in perspective of the butter-containing box detached from the other parts of the device.
The invention relates to-devices adapted for molding and cutting into small pads a body of butter or other plastic material.
One of the objects of the invention is to utilize as part of the cutting and molding apparatus a box or receptacle separable from the other parts of the apparatus, and in which the body of butter, or the like, may be preserved in cold storage at such times as the apparatus is not in use.
Other objects of the invention will appear in connection with the following description.
Referringgto the drawings wherein the invention is shown in preferred form, 1, represents a base-frame having attached thereto legs, 2, 2, and, 3, adapted to rest upon the top surface of a table, or the like, the leg, 3, havinga depending bracket, 4, through an ear, 5, on the lower end of which is inserted I a clamping-screw, 6, adapted to engage the underside of the table-top, whereby the baseframe can be secured to and upon the table.
The leg, 3, is pivotally mounted at, 7, upon the frame,.l, whereby it is' adapted to be folded substantially into the plane of the frame when the apparatus is out-of use.
The frame is provided on one end with lugs, 8, and the legs, 2, have upwardly extending arms, 9', between which arms, 9, and lugs, 8, is adapted to be supported the box, 10, which forms the receptacle or container for the butter.
The legs, 2, are integral with the respective arms, 9, and are pivotally mounted at, 11, upon the opposite sides of the frame, 1, whereby they are adapted to be folded into the plane of said frame when the apparatus is not in use.
The box, 10, which may be of any desired cross-sectional form, and made of any desired materiahis preferably made of sheetmetal, in rectangular form, and provided with the cast-metal head, 12, secured in one end of the box, which head is formed with openings, 13, of the form which-it is desired to impart'to the pads of butter. The
other end of the box is provided with a cover, 14, detachably secured to the box by hooks, 15, pivotally mounted at, 16, upon the cover and adapted severally to engage a pin, 17, on the outer side of the box.
The cover, 14, forms a bearing for a screw,
18, which has fixed upon its outer end a crank-handle 19.. The inner end of the screw, 18, is rotatively connected with the plunger, 20, which plunger conforms to the shape of the'interior of the box 10.
- Pivotally mounted at, '21, upon'the end of the frame, 1, remote from thecover, 14,is a hand-lever, 22, carrying a cutting wire, 23, movable transversely of the box, 10, adj acent to the outer side of the openings, 13, and adapted to sever projecting bars of butter forced out through the openings, '13, by inward movement of the plunger, 20, induced by operation of the screw 18.
A. locking-pin, 24, is inserted through apertures in the upward ends of the arms, 9, in close proximity to the upper surface of the box and serves both to hold the box in position and to prevent displacement of the arms, 9, and legs 2.
In operating the device, a quantity of butter is placed within'the box, 10; the cover, 14, is locked by means of-the hooks, 15, upon the open end of the box, with the plunger,
20, withdrawn-into. close proximity to the cover. The box thus prepared is placed -upon the frame, 1, which has been mounted upon the table in the manner above described, and the locking-pin, 24, is inserted.
The device is then ready for use, and the cutter,23, being raised, the screw-shaft, 18, is rotated by,means of the handle, 19, to force the plunger, 20, inwardly against the body of butter Within the box. The body of butter is thusforced toward the inner end of the box and out through the openings, 13,
in the form of bars, from which can be severed, from time to time, by the cutter, 23, pads of butter adapted for tableuse.
It will be apparent that the pads can be made of any desired thickness.
\Vhen the desired number of pads have been thus molded and cut, the box, 10, can
be removed from the frame, 1, and, with the remainder of the butter left therein, placed in an ice-box, or other place of storage, until a further supply of pads is desired.
The cover, 14, may be left upon the box in storage, but can be readily detached and removed with the screw, 18, and plunger 20.
Any known form of cutter may be employed in place of the wire 23.
IVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a box provided at one end with a molding aperture; of a removable cover for the other end of the box; hooks on said cover; members on said box adapted to be engaged by said hooks to secure the cover in place; a plunger within said box; a screw inserted through a bearing-aperture in said cover and rotatively engageable with said plunger; and a screw-operating handle on the projecting end of said screw.
2. In a device of the class described, the
combination with a supporting frame; folding legs mounted upon said frame; and a clamp mounted u on one of said folding legs for securing the rame to a table or the like; ofa box removably mounted upon said frame and provided at one end with a molding aperture; a plunger located within said box; and means for operating said plunger.
3. In a device of the class described, and in combination, a supporting frame; folding legs mounted upon said frame; an attaching clamp mounted upon one of said folding legs; a box removably mounted upon said frame, and provided at one end with a molding aperture; a plunger located within said box; and means for operating said plunger.
at. In a device of the class described and in combination, a supporting frame; folding legs mounted upon said frame; an attaching clamp mounted upon one of said folding legs; a box removably mounted upon said frame, and provided at one end with a molding aperture; a plunger located within said box; means for operating said plunger; and
a butter-cutter mounted upon said frame adjacent to the molding end of the box.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set 'my hand this 14th day of September, 1907. ALBERT P. GRIFFIN. Witnesses:
FRANK C'. CURTIS, E. M. OREILLY.
