UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE'.
RICHARD J. EVANS, OF VAN WERT, OHIO.
LACING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application tiled May 1B, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that l, ltunmnn J. llvANs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Van llert, in the county of Van Wert and Slate of Ohio, have invented new and useful lin rovements in liacing Devices, of which the 'ollowiug isa specilication.
This invention relates to lacing devices designed more particularly lol.' use with leggings, and one of the principal objects of the .saine is to provide a lacing device which will hold the lcggil'ig closely to the leg of the wearer, and whlch will not have any projecti fr portions outside the legging to catch on obrtacles and anno f the wearer.
Andther object of t ie invention is to ro- '.'ide n lacing device comprising tubular ace hearings upon one fl-np of the legging, and
nlerinediately disposed, alternately arranged lacing hoolrs secured to the other flap of the legging with the bills of the hooks disposed inward or on the inside of the Hap. Still another object of the invention is to provide a lacing device for leggings in which thtI shank or projecting portions of the tubular hea rings or lacing hooks are extended to providestitfening means for the. edges of `the flaps to prevent the legging from wrinkling or falling upon theleg of the wearer.
Thesejand other objects may be attained by means ofthe construction illilstrated in the accoinpx'inying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a side view of a legging provided with a lacing device made 1n accordancewith my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail sectlonalview on the line 2 2, of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view on the line 3 3, of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 illustrates, in plan view, the tubular lace bearing and the lacing hook member at the upper partof the legging. Fig. 5 is asimilar view showing a plurality of tubular lace bearing members formed ou a shank or hase plate,'and `a plurality of hooks also secured to a single sha-nk or base plate to be used in a lacing device for the' egging. Fig. t3 is a detail elevation showing the lacing or cord and tyin cord tied to ether at the upper end of the egging.
eferring to the drawing for a more 'particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a log ing which may be of the usual or any suite le construction and provided with a lacin flap `2'at one edge thereof, and a similar u ap 3 at the op- -vided with rivet holes 14.
.bring the two flaps together, as s .Fig 1. To unfasten the leggi-ng the hooks Patented Nov. 17, 1908. Serial No. 374,836.
positc edge thereof. Connected to the flap 3 is a series of lacing tubes 4 havin Haring outer ed es 5 to prevent abrasion ci the lac-- ings. T o lacing tuloeiI 4 are formed inte-- gral with the shank or base plate 6 provided with rivet holes 7. 4
. 'As shown in F ig. 5, two of the lacing tubes 4'* are formed upon a single shank (3 provided with rivet openings 7, these lacing tubes having 'Haring outer edfres 5. The hooks 8, two of which are formed on a single base )late 1li are provided with flarin outer et ges, and the hase plate is provit ed with rivet holeslh llhis form of lace bearing may be used for the purpose of giving a certain amount ot' strilcning to the acing Ha s of a legging.
Secure to the Hap 2 near the upper end vthereof is a. lacing hook 8, the bill 9 of which is disposed inwardly or located upon the inner side of the fia while immediately back of the bill is a s ight depression 10 to prevent the lacing from withdrawal. The tubular portion 11 of the hook is also provided with arin `edges 12', and said hook is formed integrawith a base late 13 proo cover the heads of the rivets, a tongue or flap c is cured to the inside of Hap 3, as shownin Fig. 2. In securin these 'lace bearings to tlic legging strips o? leather 16 may be used to prevent the lacing devices from being u1 ed out and to also vserve as a reinforce or`the flaps 2 and 3. A lacing cord 17 is -Secured to the flap 2 by means of a knot 18, said'cord passing through an eyelet 19 at the 'lower ed 'e of the legging, passed throu' h the tu ular lacing bearings, and engage by the hooks so that the upper end of the lacing cord may be drawn tightly'to own in 8 are unhooked without detaching the lacing. A tying cord 20 is secured to an e elet 21 at the upper end of the legging, ant' desi rned for the purpose of tying with the cor 17 to prevent withdrawal of the same from the lacing device.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that 'a liking device made in accordance with my4 invention does not project beyond the legging, and is not provided with pro'ections; 1s neat in appearance; serves yto old the legging firmly to the leg of the wearer; can
be quickly attached und deiaehed; :md emi be vrnanufne-tured :it: firnnwuniively slight enst.
lln'vii'ip; time deseriiwd the in ventionr` what I claim ie:
The Combination with :L iegging, 0i a lae- 1n r device comprising a series of lacing tubes havin 'f flaring outer edgerf, an integral. base plate er each oit' Suid Lubes, n series of lacing lmoks having Haring; outer ed fes und integral bese pluies, said tubes une bebits being seemed, upon Hic inner eide-s o the flaps of the legging wih the hooks zul'anged bein]r disposed upon the inside of the Hap ef (he egging, und said tubes and hooks being I disposed beyond the edges of the fla s, un a liu-.ing cord. exlending'through sai tubes i I inieln'iediute the tubes, the bills of the hooks und engaged by said hooks.
In testimony whereof, 1 affix my signature m presence of two witnesses.
