f his invention relates to locks, and 'more particularly' to locks for use on doors of stores, and similar places, wherein a thumb piece is rovided to operate the latch bolt.
' The o ject of the invention is the producing the latchbolt in 1ts retracted position, so
that the latch bolt may be held retracted dur* ing business hours', and the door may be opened without the necessity ot operating the latch bolt by the thumb piece. When, however, the key bolt is protractfd the latch bolt is released from engagement by the lock-- iiig dog, so that it will be protracted by its spring. v.
To this, and other ends, the invention consists of the improvements and combinations of arts set forth and claimed hereinafter.

This may be' done uponthe Opening of the store, or otherbuilding-or business in the morning, andthe latchbolt will remain retracted, sol that the Vdoor maythen be opened. during business hours without the necessity of using the thumb piece and actuating bar l.

rotated to engagev the tumbler M and key bolt D to retract it (Fi 3), it doesgnot come in contact with the en AS of the dog R, as the dog has been moved 'forward out ofthe path of the bit. Hence. the bit 4N will re- I tract the key bolt'without operating the dog R to retract the latch bolt, but after the key bolt is retracted, further rotation ofthe bit N lwill operate the dog R to retract the latch bolt,- as above described. v

1. In a lock, the combination With a case; of a latch bolt movable in said ca se and .'yieldingly held in its protracted position;
means4 for retracting said llatch bolt; and 'mechanism' operated by a key adaptedv to engage said latch boltretracting means to position, substantially as described.

of a latch bolt movable in said case; a key bolt also'movable in said case; pivoted mechanism 'for locking said latch bolt in its retracted position released upon theprotra' tion of said key bolt; and means for operating said latch locking mechanism substantially as described.- V
