Description

JAMES GOR'I`ON, OF44 COHOCTON, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 90,355, dated May 25,1869.
mnovnn ROAD-Sempere The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it ma/y concern Be it known that I, JAMES GORTON, of Gohocton, in the county of Steuben, and in the State of N ew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrapers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this speciicationp A represents a metallic frame, which consists of two parallel bars placed at a suitable distance, curved as represented, and connected together by the two cross-v bars B B.
Handles C C are formed on the rear ends of the parallel or side bars of the frame.
E represents a double scraper constructed upon any of the wel1-known plans, and made of metal, or metal bound.
' This scraper is pivoted at its 'centre c a, between the two side bars ofthe frame, and revolves upon this pivot.
D D representvtwo levers pivoted, through ears formed upon them, to the side bars of the frame at xx. Springs e e, secured to the side bars, press these V,levers from said bars at their rear ends. On the inside By pressing in the rear ends of the levers, their rear ends recede 'from the sidebarsvand the pins d, leaving the holes in the scraper, it is allowed to revolve upon its-centre pivot. When the scraper has made a hal-f revolution, the levers D beingfree, the pins d-d take into the holes in its sides and station it.
'lhe operator, who stands in rear of the scraper, with his hands upon the handles C Q, easily forces in the 'rear ends of the levers, so as to free the scraper and allow it to partially revolve. 'Ihe moment the scraper is released, the operator removes his hand from the levers, and when the scraper has made its half revolution by being dragged forward, the pins l d take quickly into the holes, as has been described, stationing it until it is necessary to have it revolve again.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The double revolving scraper E, pivoted to the metallic irame A, at its centre, said frame being provided with horizontal levers D D and springs c e, for scouring the scraper, and allowing the same to revolve, the whole being' constructed, arranged, and operating as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have here: unto set my hand and seal, this 6th day of June, 1867.
