F..H. MOORE. WIRING BLINDS.
No.9,032. Patented June 15, 1862.
FBLE'DK. it. MOORE,"oF rT-Hh'cA, w nn r-0112K,
MACH-INEFORWl-RiNG sr mo aooisffl S rcificutirm foiming part. of Letters Patent 9,032, dntedJnne 15, 115..
To all whom it 11mg concern:
Be itknown that I, FREDERICK H. MOORE, of Ithaca, Tompkins county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Machine for firing Blind-Rods and Forming the Staples for the Slats; and I do hereby declare that the "following is a full, clear, and exact v"(lescription of theoperation and construction of the same, reference" being had to the drawing,.whichrepresents-a perspective view of" the entire machine complete.
The operation of wiring the rod and forming the..staples for the, same is as follows: The
' blind-rod in its plain state is passed between 'thetoothed'or '-flute d rollers a l), which are drivenby the bevel gearing N from the main shaft C, the rod being carried along on the guide-table D. \Vhen the rod arrives opposite the perforatingslide IE, it rests or stops, becausethe wheel H is toothed only acertain part-0f its circumference. "The Slide E isthen,
. fbyj the operation of a cam oil the shaft 0, i pnshedforward, causing the rod to be wicked-'- by twoawls or'needles in the end of the-slide This process is repeated for theformation' of therequired number of holes inth'elro'd, which is finally carried fllOIlgfOll the table D and out through the toothed or i-flnted delivv cry-rollers c f. When each pair of holes arrivee positethe wiring-slide F, they-have the staplesfor wires setin them in the followj ing manne1" ='-}";At the same time the rod is. be-
i ingefed through the tooth or fluted rollers ob 'andef the wire is fed between the 'rollersg hfwhieh rollers are-driven by the bevel-geari'ng M from the mai'nIsha ft G. The'length of the wire is increased or diminished by increasing or diminishing the number of cogs or teeth ,in the mgewnea \V on'the main shaft 0. The rollersgh' carry the wire through the pierced uprightand into a groove in the endp'iZthe forming-slide F. 'The wire is then cut-.blf to its proper le'ngthby the moving or sliding'shears or cutter I, operated, on by the Bani i, andthe the slide F is similarly worked by the cam, 'K, both cams i and K being on the main shaft C, and the vertical former P, worked by the cam L, through the lever R, serve, by their united surfaces and action, to bend the wire in the groove-of the slide]? by lapping the wire on either side of the former for-med to suit the wire or staples, as soon as the wire is pressed around the vertical former P'by the action of the lever B through the drawn down, leaving the wire bent as follows, 9, but sticking in the end of the slide F. The vertical former P being drawn down, the slide F is carried forward by the cam K on the main shaft 0, and shoving the bent wires or staples in the -holes-made by the perforating slide E. During the time the slide F is being on by the cam b", also on shaft 0, throwing the clincher 3 on the guide-table D 1 around, so that the curved part or end comes against the leg of the bent wire or staple protruding through the rod, which bends the wire down against the surface ofthe rod or clinching it); The clincher is drawn back to its state of rest ,by the spiral spring S. The distance'of the adding or diminishing thenumber of cogs or I the awls or needles in the end of the perfora-- tion E correspondingly, which awls orneedles are held fast by a cap secured-with a set-- screw. The-wires for the slats are different from those for the rods, .each leg being of a length-thus C+those for the rod being in this form, L, having one leg longerthan the other secure from'pulling out by being clinched. The wires for slatsare formed in the same manneras those for the rods, merely adding the'desired number-of cogs or teeth in the wheel W onmain shaft C.
It will be seen that the slides lor-the'various operations of pricking, cut-ting off,.,bending,- and clinching are thrown to their places of rest by springs or their equivalents. Such are the operations of my blind-rod-wiring ,machine.
It will be seen that the rod, after being started iu'between the two toothed or fluted rollers a b, in due time, and by the various operations herein described, is wired and dclivered out through the fluted or toothed rollers c f. I
Having thus fully, 'clcarly, and exactly de-. scribed my invention, what-bl ==clai=m as. new, and desire'to. seizure by Letters Patent, is-
