To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALFRED DAY, a citizen of the United States residing at Philadelha, county of Philadel hia, State of ennsylvania, have invent a new and useful Roaster and Cooker, of which the followin is a specification.

y invention relates to a new and useful roaster and cooker and consists of means for rotatably mountin the article to be cooked and for adjusting t e position thereof.

It further consists of other novel features of construction, all as will be hereinafter fullyset forth.

Figure l represents a erspective view of a roaster and cooker embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view of a roaster or cooker showing the same ada ted for use with a difl erent kind of fuel rom that for which it is adapted as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 represents a sectional view of t e means for engaging the article to be oooked, Fig. 5 represents a partial sectional view of the means for looking the rotating means.

Referring to the drawings, I have found in ractice that in order to properly roast or. roil an article that it is necessa to place the same above and to one side o the fuel and to have some means for adjusting the position of the support so that a greater or less amount of heat may be obtaied and in the drawings I have shown a construction which I have f ound in ractice to operate successfully, but it will various changes may be made in the construction, the arrangement of the arts -may be varied and other instrumenta ities may be employed which will come within the sco of my invention and I do not therefore desre to be limited in every instance 'to the exact form as herein shown and described but desire to make such changes therein as may be neoessa.

Adjacent the outer end of each of the racks is a recess or seat 12 which is adapted to receive a pin 13 one of which is provided with a point 14 and the opposite end with the hand-Wheel 15, said ll'l also carrying a plate or disk 16 provide at suitable oints in its face with the recesses 17. Carred by one of the racks 7 is a stud 18 which passes throu h the rack and ;,upon the head end thereo resses a sprin ,19, the opposite end of whic is connecte with the rack 7 in any suitable manner as by the screw 20 it bei understood that the spring 19 forms a res' ient bearing for the stud 18 in order to cause the same to i enter one of the recesses 17 in the late 16 as the same is rota'ted, whereby it wil be understood that the pin 13, when rotated, is held in its different positions by the stud 18 engagin with the walls of the recesses 17.

24 and 28 res ectively to enter from opposite sides into the article to be cooked and the set screws 22 and 26 are tightened whereby the article will be firmly held upon the pin which latter is then returned to ts seat upon the racks. The gas has been'i 'ted at a suitable time and the casing wi cause the heat to be passed upwardl and will be directed against the article rom the sideand top, the hood 29 having been meanwhile thrown down into osition seen in Figs. 1

and 2. The bar 8 s now rotated in order assumewith res ect to the fire and as one side of the artic e is cooked by grasping the hand Wheel 15, the pin 13 can be rotated since the force necessary will force back the spring 19 and permit the rotation of the parts, until the next recess 17 is reached in the plate 16 when the pin 18 will again enter a recess 17 and look the parts in position. I have found that turkeys, chickens or beef cooked in this manner are much nicer than when cooked in the ordinary manner since the fire is at one side thereof and any fat juices or other matter which it is not desired to have remain in the article will fall, therefrom and can be gathered in a bowl 44, see' Fig. 2, placed beneath the article for this pu ose.

I it is desired to use the device with other fuel than gas, the burners 39 can be removed and the plate 42 placed in position after which the device is ready for operation.

It will be seen that the device is useful as a cooker or roaster alone or can be directly connected up with a gas range and used entirely with this kind of fuel. By removing the covers 3 the openings from the top are adapted for receptacles containing other articles to be cooked, which can be done at the same time.

It will, of course, be understood that the casing 1 can be rovided with a suitable asbestos linin or t e casing may be made with -two walls o metal between which the asbes- *sitions 2. In a device ,of the character described,

a casin burners suitably supported therein; horzontally-movable supports on the casing, means for moving the same, a rotatable pin removably mounted in the outer ends of said supports, means whereby said pin may be rotated above and to one side of the burners, and an automatic look on said supports for looking the pin in its adjusted postions.

3. In a device of the character described, a casing, burners carried thereby, horizontal 'acks suitably sup orted on said casing, a rod having gears t ereon meshing with said racks for moving the same, a pin removably and rotatably sup orted by said racks and automatic means f dr looking said pin in its adjusted rotated position.

4. In a device of the character described, a casing, burners carried thereby, horizontal racks suitably supported on said casing, a rod having gea's thereon meshing with said racks for moving the same, a pin removably and rotatably supported by said racks, a spring actuated stud carried by one of said racks and a plate having recesses in its face carried b said-pin into which recesses said stud is a apted to enter in order to hold the pin in its adjusted position.

5. In a device of the character described, burners suitably sup orted, horizontal movable supports carri by said casing, means for novn the same, a removable rotatable pin carried by the outer ends of said supports and adapted to be situated above and at one side of the burners, and collars adjustably mounted on said pin and having prongs for engagement With the article to be cooked and a hood su ported by the casing and extended over said pin.

6. In a device of the character described, a casing having one side open, guides adjacent the edges of the sides, a plate extending across a portion of the front face and having a shoulder at its upper edge and forming a draft Opening between it and the bod of the casing, burners supported u on sai plate and a removable plate adapte to be seated in said guides above the firstnarned plate for pa rtly closing the open side of said casing.

9. In a device of the character described, a casing, burners suitably supported, movable supports carried by said casing, means for moving the same, a rotatable pin carried by said supports, said casing being provided with ides for a removable front late and a hood pivotally connected with sad casing and adapted to be thrown out of or into operative position.

10. In a device of the character described, a casing, burners suitably supported therein, a removable front plate on said casing above the burners, a plate extending across a portion of the front of the casing with a draft space beneath the same, said plate supporting the burners, movable supports carried by said casing, a rotatable pin carried by said supports and adapbed to be situated above and to one side of the burners and a hood adapted to be situated over said rotatable pin when in operative position.
