- JOSEPH TQRADEMAKER AND BERNAR F. EMAKER, or enl ven/inn; onjlo,
FOLDINGWCRB ATTACNT FOR BEDS.
To all it may concern:
Be it known thatwe, Josigrn T. Rana MAKER and BERNARD F. RAnnMAKER,.citizens ofthe United States,'residing at Cleveland,
in the county of Cuyahoga and :State of,
()hio, have invented anew and iisefulqlm I provement in Folding-Crib Attachments for tion. I
This invention relates generally to folding crib adapted to be attach Beds, of which the following is aspecificacribs, and more particularl to a folding to a bedstea. and another. object is to construct said at tachment' in such a manner that it can be folded when not in use and pushed beneath the bed sothat it will not occupy any room space when not in use.
Another object 1s to provide an attach-. ment ofthis kind which can be used in con-- nection' with any of the well known constructions of bedsteads.
With these various objects in view the in-.
' vention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bedstead having our improved folding crib attached thereto, the crib being opened outready to receive-the mattress.
Fig; 2 is a perspective view showing the crib folded and pushed beneath the bedstead, the mattress of the bed and crib beingomitted for clearness of illustration. tional elevation, Fig. 4 is a detail sectio'nal view taken through one of the supports.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates an' ordinary metal bedstead, to the. side rails. of
which are attached the adjustable hanger,
brackets B and connected to, these hanger brackets are the su porting guides C, there being two'such gui es, each supported by the adjustable brackets at each end and it will be noted that these supporting ides are arranged adjacent the head and oot of the bedstead and it will of course be understood that they can be attached at any convenient point. Sliding in these supporting uides are the rods or bars'D connected a their outer ends by the sidebar D, and adjacent their inner ends by means of the bar D said rodsand bars constituting a frame which is adapted to slide back and forth in the supporting guides beneath: the bedstead proper. Each sliding bar D, carries two Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed May 31, 1am. Serial No. 376,669.
Fig. 3- is a'sec-v Bateutecl Nov. 3, r 08.
depending hangers E and pivotally connected to each hanger is a. link arm F, the upper end of each link arm being pivotally connected at F'tothe ends G of a rectangle lar shaped mattress supporting frame, .said frame being of a size slightly smaller than the space inclosed by the bars 1), D and D. This frame G is intended to hold the mattressofthe crib. The side H, of the crib is pivotally'connecte'd to the side bar of the sliding frame and is adapted tofold inwardly and downwardly upon the mattress carrying frame and as the and side folds downwardly the. mattress carrying, frame drops and thereby lowers the saidmattress to such a point that when the crib has been folded the crib with the mattress and bed clothes can be pushed under. the bedstead; In order to accomplish these movements we construct H and connecting rods H 'lihe rod H has depending legs H which are pivotally connected at H to the bar 10 and this lower bar H is provided with an arm H adjathe side H. of the upper bar H, lower bar cent each end, which arm is pivotally con-J nected' to a link arm. F which is also pivotally connected to the mattress frame at F where the outer link arm 'F is pivoted, and
by reference to Fig. 3 it will be seen that when the side H ,is folded. inwardly-and downwardly the mattress frame will be lowered as shown in dotted" lines.
The-ends'l, consist or the upper barf and lower bar I and connecting rod 1 and the lower bars I arehinged at 1* to the side bars D of the sliding frame. K indicates the legs'which are connected, to the outer ends of the ends I, and are provided at their upper ends with half sockets K into which fit the ends of the upper rod H and a suitable sleeve sliding on'said bar can beused to securely lock the folding sides and ends in their proper position. As before stated the side H, is first folded causing the mattress frame to drop and then the ends are. folded over and after the side and ends are so folded the entire-folded crib together -with the mattress and bed clothes can be the hangers connected thereto, the supporting guides connected'to said hangers a sliding frame Working in saidguides, the mattress frame movably supported upon the sliding frame, pivoted side and ends and means for holding said side and ends in their open positions together with means for raising and lowering the mattress frame simultaneously with the side.
2. 111 a device of the kind described the combination With the supportiiig guides, of the sliding frame, the depending. hangers connected to the said frame, the mattress frame and the link arm connecting said frame to the depending hangers, the hinged side and ends and the. link arm connecting the side and mattress frame whereby as the side is raised and lowered the mattress frame Will also be raised and lowered.
3. The combination with a bedstead, of the adjustable supporting guidessuspended therefrom, the frame sliding in said guides, a mattress frame, and link connection between the sliding and mattress frames, the ends hinged to the frame, the side hinged also to the frame and connected with the mattress, for the purpose specified.
4. The combination With 'a bedstead, 'of the suspended guides connected therewith, the frame, sliding in said. guides, ends of the crib pivoted to said frame, each end having a supporting leg, a side hinged to the frame, means for locking the side and ends together, and a mattress frame, connected with the sliding frame, and movable with reference thereto, together With means for moving the same as specified.
