ORLANDO HOPKINS NASON, OF MARTHA FURNACE, PENNSYLVANIA.
NEGK-YOKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 2'7, 1908.
Application filed June 16, 1908. Serial No. 488.845.
To all whom it may concern:
I lie it known that l. Onnxxno ll. Xasox. a citizen ot the United States. residing at The clip ol' loop of the main neck Martha Furnace, in the county of (enter and State of Pennsylvania. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in, Neclc Yokes. of which the following is a specification. reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in harness and more particularly to neck yokes.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved neck yoke device for a double harness which will take the st ain caused by holdingg back and backing from the animals ne ks and place it upon the breeching'.
\Vi h the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features oi construction and the combination and ar rangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed. and illustrated in the accompanying drawings. in which Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the use (it my improved neck yoke device in connection with a double harness; and Fig.
2 is a detail view of one of the roller carrym g-rings or clips upon the ends of the auxiliary neck yoke.
In the drawings 1 denotes a portion of a draft pole on which i mounted in the usual manner a main neck yoke 2 which carries two auxiliary neck yokes 3.
4 denotes the breeching of a double harness and 5 denotes the hames. The latter are connected to the ends of the main neck yoke 2 by straps 6 and rings or clips 8 and the breeching 4 has forwardly extending straps 7 connected to the. auxiliary neck yokes 3. Each of the rings or clips 8 is preferably coi'istructed of a metal rod bent into U-shape to receive one end ofthe main neck yoke and having the ends'of its parallel arms 9 bent to form eyes 10. The latter receive a transverse rivet, bolt; or the like 11 which forms the journal of a roller 12. This roller is of cylindrical form and corresponds space between the arms 5). 8 is retained upon one end yoke by a staple or the like. 1.3 and the roller 12 is engaged by one of the home straps (3. The breeching stra s T have snap hooks at their forw'ard ends connected rings [4- on the auxiliary neck yokes. the latter are connected at their centers by clips 16 to kinks or loops 15 formed in one of the arms 5) of each of the clips 8. These kinks or loops are formed by bending the arm 9 at a point about midway its length. as more clearly shown in Fig. .2.
From the foregbing it will be seen that when my improved neck yoke device is used in length to the F upon a double harness, as shown in Fig. 1,
"the straincaused by holding back and backing is taken almost entirely from the hames and placed upon the breecliingz and that by providing the clips 8 with the rollers 12 and the loops or kinks 15 there will be little or no wear upon the hame straps and both the latter and the l)l9(lllll;1 straps will be held in their proper positions.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
The combination with the hames and the. breechinga of a double harness, of a main neck yoke. auxiliary neck yokes carried thereby, clips at.the ends of said main neck yoke, each of said clips being of Uform and having a roller journalcd between its arms and one arni formed with a loop, breast straps extending from the hames and passed around said rollers, clips engaged with the loops of said clips and connected to the auxiliary neck yokes and breeching straps leadiin from the breechi-ng and engaged with tie ends of the auxiliary neck yoketc ln' testimony whereof I hereunto ailix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
t ORLANDO HOPKINS NASUN".
