To all whom it may concern:
-Be it known/chat I, WILLIAM G. Nnw'ron, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented'a .new and useful Improvement in aGombined Descending- Shower and Shampoo Fixture 2o fixed shampoo tube and thehandle in elevation. Fig. 3 a view in horizontal section on the line ab of Fig.2 showing the shampoo-rose holder upon the fixed shampoo tube. My invention relates to an improvement in a combined descending shower and shampoo fixture for shower baths, the object bemg to produce a simple, compact and con-' venient fixture in which the descending shower and the shampoo are controlled by a sin le handle.
ith these ends inview my inventio consists in a fixture having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In carrying out my invention I employ a valve-body- 2 having an inlet and two outlets, viz., an inlet 3 located at its lower end, a vertical shower-outlet 1 located at its upper end and-a lateral shampoo-outlet 5 located upon its front face. The said inlet 3 is threaded for the reception of the threaded upper end of the mixing-column 6 which rises from a mixing-chamber- 7 to which hot and cold water are .supplied re spectively by hot and cold water valves8 and 9 having the usual hot and cold water connections 10 and 11, all of these parts,
barring the said valve-body 2,,beirig ofi- 'any approved construction and arrangement. The outlet 4 receives the lower end of the shower tube 12 which leads upward .to a' rain shower not shown but of any approved 'form. The said valve-body 2 contains a winding artition 13 separating the inlet 3 and the s ower-out1et-4and provided with Specification of Letters Patent. Application mm awn-'4, 1907. Serial No. aeaau.
Iatent ed Oct. 20, 1908.
a'shower-port 14 encircled by an annular valverse'at 15 in'the verticalplane and co? acting with "a shower-valve packin -washer 16 mounted upon the inner end. 0 a horizontal spindle '17 alsocarrying a shampoovalvePacking-washer 18' co-acting with an annular valve-s'e'at'19 located in the vertical lane and encircling a shampoo-port 20 ormed in and concentric with the beveled innerend ofa'bonnet '21 mounted in the shampoo-outlet 5 andv held in place therein by a union nut 22. The said shampoo-port 20 leads into the. chamber 23 in the bonnet 21, while the chamber 23' opens into a dependingfixed shampoo'tube' 24 screwed-at its upper end into the bonnet and having its lower end corrugated as at 25 for the appli-i cation of arubber shampoo tube 26 whichterminates in an ordinary rose 27. As shown the tube 2 1 is formed with an integral forwardly projecting fork-like rose-holder 28 from which'the rose is suspended when not in use, as shown in Fi 1. v
The washers l6and 18 are located upon theopposite sides'of a disk 29 located upon the inner end of the spindle 17 which is formed with quick threads 30 taking into corresponding threads in the outer end of the bonnet which is'furnished with an ordinary packing n'ut or gland 31 through which the outer end of the spindle rojects for the application of a lever han le 32 which might, of course, be replaced by a wheel handle.
. The said threads 30 are pitched to givera rapid longitudinal movement of the spindle 27 when turned by the handle 32 so thatwhen the handle is turned from the limit of its movement in one direction to the limit of its movement in the opposite direction, the spindle will be moved longitudinally far enough to bring one or the other of its two washers 16 or 18 into play. Thus, if the handle 32 isturned from its shower ositionat the left into its shampoo pos1tion at the right, the spindle will be moved far enou' h inward to seat the washer 16 upon the s% bod-y' Lof water entering through the port 3 will. be diverted through the shampoo port 20 and chamber 23 intothe fixed shampoo tube 24. On the-other hand when the handle is turned. from its shampoo position at the right to its shower? po'sitionmat the left, 7 the spindle will be cc outward so as to seat is asher ggy-on the.
ower valve-seat '15 whereby the entire p glymov d 1 e 11' 0' shampoo valve-seat 19, whereby all of the water entering the inlet 3 will be diverted through the shampoo port 14 to the outlet 4, and hence into the shower tube 12 by which it is led to the rain shower. It will thus be seen that in one movement ofthe handle 2 the user at his option secures at his will a descending shower or shampoo.
I claim 1. In a combined descending shower and shampoo fixture, the combination with hot and cold water valves, and hot and cold water connections therefor, of a mixingchamber located between the said valves and connected therewith, a mixing-column rising from the said mixing-chamber, a showertube extending upward above the said mixing-column, a vertically arranged valve-body interposed between the upper end of the said column and the lower end of the said tube and having a downwardly opening inlet for the receptlon of the upper end of the said column, an upwardly opening shower-outlet for the reception of the lower end of the said tube, and a lateral shampoo-outlet; a horizontally arranged bonnet applied to the said shampoo-outlet, a depending shampoo-tube niade independently of the said bonnet and having its upper end entered thereinto between the ends thereof, a horizontally arranged valve-spindle passing through the said bonnet, a lever-handle at the outer end of the spindle, packing Washers located at the inner end thereof, and quick threads upon the spindle taking into corresponding threads in the bonnet and pitched so that a half turn of the lever-handle will shift the washers for diverting the water from one outlet to the other.
2. In a combined descending shower and shampoo fixture, the combination with hot and cold Water .valves and hot and mold water connections therefor, of a mixingchamber located between the said valves and connected therewith, a mixing-column rising from the said mixing-chamber, a showertube extending upward above the said mixing-column, a vertically arranged valve-body interposed between the upper end of the said column and the lower end of the said tube and having a downwardly opening inlet for the reception of the upper end of the said column, an upwar'dly opening shower-outlet for the reception of the lower end of the said tube, a bonnet applied to the said s'howeroutlet of the body, a valve-spindle mounted in the bonnet, and a depending shampoo tube having its upper end entered into the said bonnet between the ends thereof, having its lower end adapted for the application. to it of a rubber tube-and furnished with a forwardly projecting fork-like shampoo-rose holder fixed in a horizontal plane.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
