Specification of- Letters Patent.
PROCESS OF FIXING COLORS.
I atented Oct. 6, 190a.
application filed. Februar'y ll, 1908. 7 Serial No. 4 :14, 997
To all it My comer-n: i Be it known that I, HANS ,TOEPFER, citizen-of the German Em ire, residing at Elberfeld, Germany, om of Prussia, have 5 invented new and useful Improvements in Processes of Fixing Colors, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
As is known, .the shades on cotton of substantive coloring matters (with the exce tlon of sulfur (1 es and vat-dyes) show t. e
' disadvantage 0 being not sufiiciemly fastainst water and washing, i have now discovered that thefastness against water,

m one liter cubic centimeters stannate fireparing salt), let the, goods lie in t'he sodium stannate alkali solution af terwards with the sulfate of magnesium solution Neither the magnesiumsalt alone nor the stannate alone have anyeff'ect as far as increased fastnessis concerned. The combined use of these chemicals'is necessary to bring about the desired effect, but the ap .plication of the chemicals mustbe carried but in separate baths. I
Other substantive coloring'matters, such as "benzopurpurine, benzofasto'range, benzefastblue vetc., other magnesium salts, other stannates and other alkalies 0'1 alkaline agents-may be used.
Having now described 1n intention and in what manner the same is to he performed,
what I claim, is:
The herein-described process for improving'the fastness against water and washin of dyeings obtained on vegetable fiber witfi substantlve colors, which process consists in treating the dyed material with magnesium salts, stannates and alkaline agents, substantially'as described.
' In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing Iwitnesses.
