Description

J. T. PENDLEBURY. WATDH APPLICATION FILED MAY 29, 1908.
Patented Sept. 29, 1908.
lNVENTOH JAMES THOMAS PEND-LEBURY By ATTORNEYS I W/TNESSES azza JAMES THOMAS PENDLEBURY, OF MANCHESTER, ENGLAND.
WATCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 29, 1908.
Application filed May 29, 1908. Serial No. 435,716.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES THOMAS PEN- DLEBURY, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at '12 Thorniley Brow, Manchester, in the county of Lancaster, England, manufacturing jeweler and watchcase-maker, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Connected with Watches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements more particularly in dome dust covers for the movements of watches, and has for its object to provide a cheap and efficient dust proof cover which will permit the regulator being altered without removing the said cover.
In the drawing attached hereunto, the invention is shown as applied to a watch of known type, and the improved cover is shown as secured to the movement by means of the dog screws sometimes used for securing the movement to the band or the case.
Figure 1 represents an elevation of the watch with the back cap or cover open and showing my improved cover in place. Fig. 2
' represents a flat view of the improved cover,
and Fig. 3 an edge view of the same detached; Figs. 4 and 5 the dome cover in detail.
The cover as shown consists of a slightly dished disk a large enough to slightly overlap the opening of the band I), and rest upon the raised rim 0. It is secured to the band by being clamped down thereon by means of the screws (Z which enter into the movement, the latter being inserted from the front of the case. In the disk at is pierced a slot 6 so as to come right over the finger f of the regulator g. Over this slot a plate suchas 7b is pivoted to the cover at i so that it can be turned round, and in the shutter illustrated is formed a slot j to correspond with that c in the cover. By this arrangement the slot 6 in the cover can be exposed or covered at will by turning the shutter 7t round and this may be done by means of a pin or penknife, and the regulator finger f may be moved by the same instrument. Preferably the shutter it rests in a slight depression in the cover which is not shown in the drawing.
The improved cover may be made wholly of a suitable transparent material and celluloid answers the purpose in an apparently satisfactory manner. Or it may be made of metal wholly, or one part thereof may be made of metal and the other part of transparent material.
Claim- The combination, with a watch-case and movement, of a dome dust-cover a secured at its edges to the band of the case, the said cover having the arc-shaped slot c located over the regulator, and a disk-shutter h pivoted to the cover adjacent to said slot and having an arc slot j arranged concentrically with the pivot of the disk and adapted, when the shutter is rotated, to register with the slot in the cover, as shown and described.
