Be it known that I, JOHN LAFAYETTE Mo- CALEB, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of CarriZo Springs,'inthecounty' of Dimmit and State of Texas, have invented a" new and Im roved Shutter Attachment, of
which the fol owing is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates toshutter attachments for adjustably securing the slats of shutters in position to prevent them from rattling or otherwise moving casually, and to hold them in a plurality of adjustable positions. l r l More specifically, theinvention relates to an attachment for shutters, consisting of an elongated resilient member adapted to be inserted between the slats of the shutter and the slat rod, and frictionally engaging the slats and the rod, so that they can be held in a plurality of adjusted positions and secured against casual movement.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and durable attachment for shutters by means of which rattling of the shutter slats is obviated, and which serves to hold the slats and the slat rod in a plurality of adjustable positions by frictional engagement therewith.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in theclaims. f
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all theviews, and inwhich j l Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the upper portion of a shutter having my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the shutter having my invention positioned between the shutter slats. and the slat rod; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevation showing the attachment removed from the shutter. v i r l Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my lnvention it should be clearly understood that while the same is particularly useful in connection with shutters, window blinds and the like, which have pluralities of adjustable slats simultaneously controllable by means of slat rods, the device can also be used with other structures in which pluralities of slats or the like are used and are operatively connected by slat rods 1 1 Orsimilar parts. The attachment is so constructed that it can be easily slipped into place between the slats and the slat con trolling rod frictionally to engage the same, said attachment being fashioned from resilient material such as spring wire, and being suitably formed for the purpose. The
slats of a shutterorwindow blind are usually 1 looselymounted, and are prone to rattle or to assume difierent positions under the influence of wind or accidental jars or shocks.
My attachment holds the slats secured in any position in which they may be placed, though eaving them free to be displaced into other positions manually or otherwise, when it is desired to do so.
Referringmore particularly to the drawings, A represents a shutter frame, having transverse pivoted slats B and a longitudinal slat rod 0 extending transversely of the slats and loosely and plvotally secured to each of the same by staple or other connections D. It 'will be understood that when the slat rod ismoved up or down all of the slats are correspondingly moved into open or closed positions.
Iprovide an elongated member 10, fash ioned preferably from spring wire or the like andhaving substantially equal parts 11 offset in opposite directions by an oblique central portion 12. The ends 13 of the member are laterally disposed in opposite directions I and are concaved or in-curved for a purpose which will appear hereinafter. The member 10 is positioned between the slats and the slat rod, with a part 11 at each side of the rod a'sis shown most clearly in Fig. 1, the central portion 12 of the member extending transversely of the rod. The ends 18 engage at the underside of the rod and firmly receive the same, as they are curved for this purpose. The extremities of the members are upwardly disposed adjacent to the laterally disposed ends as is shown most clearly in Fig. 2 so that the slat rod is forced outwardly from the slats and both the slats and the rod are frictionally and resiliently engaged by the member. In this way, the slats and the rod are secured in position and can be adjusted if desired, while being firmly held against casual movement.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The combination, with a shutter having slats, and a rod controlling said slats, of an attachment consisting of a member adapted to be removably arranged between said slats and said rod and frictionally engaging said rod at the ends of said member, and frictionally engaging said slats intermediate its ends, whereby said member serves to adjustably hold said slats in a plurality of positions.
2. The combination, with a shutter having slats, and a rod controlling said slats, of a member removably positioned between said slats and said rod and frictionally engaging said rod and a plurality of slats, whereby said slats can be adjustably held in a plurality of positions said member being offset in termediate its ends.
3. The combination, with a shutter having slats, and a rod controlling said slats, of an elongated resilient member removably positioned between said slats and said rod and frictionally engaging the same, whereby said slats can be adjustably held in a plurality of positions, said member being offset in opposite directions, and having laterally disposed ends formed to receive said rod.
4. An attachment for a shutter, compris- 25 ing an elongated body having laterally disposed ends and adapted to be arranged. between the slats and the rod of the shutter, whereby it frictionally engages the rod at said laterally disposed ends and the slats intermediate said ends.
5. An attachment for a shutter, comprising an elongated body offset in. opposite directions and. outwardly curved at the ends,
