Description

WINDOW (N0 Model.)
Pa (1 Aug.5, 1890.
WITNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS DE LONG, OF BROOKLYN, NEXV YORK.
WIN DOW-VENTI LATO R.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 433,450, dated August 5, 1890.
Application filed April 18, 1890. $erial No. 348,496. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, JULIUS DE LONG, a, citizen of the United States, residing at Broole lyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window-Ventilators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates especially to devices employed for securing the ventilation of rooms and apartments, especially those employed for sleeping purposes, and has for its object the provision of an attachment for Window-sashes, whereby air may be admitted over the upper rail of the lower sash when the same is slightly raised, while at the same time no opening will be left between the sash and the sill of the window.
To attain the desired end, my invention consists, essentially, in the combination, with a window-sash, of a plate, preferably made in two parts, to secure longitudinal adjustability, said plate having at or near each end an arm which extends up the side stile of the sash through a box or eye secured to the stile and acting as a guide. The box also contains a thumb-screw for securing the plate in a raised or lowered position when required, all of which-will be hereinafter first fully de scribed, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a view in elcvation of a window wherewith my device is employed, showing the sash closed down. Fig. 2 is a like view showing the sash raised. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view at line 0000 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a like view at line y y of Fig. 1.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A is the low r window-sash, and O the upper sash.
D is the window-frame.
E is the sill.
F G are the two parts of a plate, the part F having projecting lips H, which overlap part G at the center in order that the plate may be adjusted longitudinally to fit any width of window.
I I are rods secured near the outer extremities of plate F G, and hearing at. their tops knobs or enlargements J.
will resume its original position.
K K are blocks, each having a central perforation L, as illustrated in Fig. 3, for'the reception of a rod 1, and a thumb-screw P, for bearing upon the rod when raised or lowered, if desired.
hen constructed and arranged as above described, my device may be easily applied to any window-sash and air admitted between the meeting-rails. \Vhen the sash is raised, the plate will fall, its limit of movement being regulated by means of the knobs J on the top of the rods 1, and it is held closely against the lower rail of the sash when in any position. As the sash is closed down, the plate By having the'boxes secured to the stiles of the sash it is not necessary to have any perforations through the plates, and by reason of the plate being made in two parts it can be used with varying widths of window-sashes.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A window-ventilator attachment which consists of a divided adjustable plate having vertical rods at each extremity, and blocks secured to the side stiles of a sash through which the vertical rods pass, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, with a window-sash, bearing-blocks secured to the side stiles, of a plate resting against the lower rail of the sash and provided with rods which extend through perforations in said blocks, substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination, with a window-sash, bearing-blocks secured to the side stiles, said blocks being perforated longitudinally and provided with thumb-screws, of a longitudinally-adjustable plate restingagainst the lower sashrail, said plate bearing vertical arms near each extremity, passing through. the longitudinal perforations in the blocks, and terminating in enlargements or knobs, substantially as shown and described.
