M. RILEY, GLOTHES RETAINER FOR INFANTS BEDS. APPLIOATION FILED APB.24,1908.
899,325. I I Patented Sept. 22,1908.
UNITED sirarns ATEN'I OFFICE.
MARRIOTT RILEY, OF BRAEBURN, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM M. DEEMER, OF BRAEBURN, PENNSYLVANIA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 22, 1908.
Application filed April 24, 1908. Serial No. 428,980.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARRIOTT RILEY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Braeburn, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes Retainers for Infants Beds, of which the following is'a specification, reference being had therein to the ao-" companymg drawing.
This invention relates to a clothes fastener for beds and cribs, and the primary object of my invention is the provision of positive and reliable means in connection with a bed for retaining the clothes thereon, whereby a restless sleeper cannot easily dislodge the bed clothes.
A further object of this invention is to provide a bed clothes fastener that can be easily and quickly attached to the posts of a bed or crib, the fastener being of such a construction that bed clothes can be easily placed in engagement with the fastener, without injuring the clothes and at the same time permitting of easy and free movement of the erson sleeping in a bed equipped with my c lothes fastener.
. With the above and other objects in view, which will readily appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be presently described and then specifically pointed out in the ap pended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of a bed equipped with my clothes fastener, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a portion of the clothes fastener, Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view taken on the line a:x of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line yy of Fig. 3.
To put my invention into practice, I provide the posts or head and foot ieces 1 and 2 of a bed or crib with vertical s lotted guides 3, said guides having their upper and lower ends provided with resilient arms 4 adapted to embrace the posts 1 and 2 and be adjustably secured thereto by set screws 5. In the slot 6 of each guide is movably mounted a T horizontal or vertical.
shaped head 7, said heads having their outer edges recessed for movable blocks 8, which are normally retained in engagement with the heads 7 by set screws 9. The heads 7 are connected together by longitudinal parallel rods 10, one arranged above the other. The blocks 8 are connected together by a longitudinal rod 11, said rod being parallel to the rods 10 but in a different plane, neither The rod 11 lays intermediate the rods 10 and has its inner edge touching the vertical plane of the outer edges of the rods 10. In consequence of this arrangement, the edges of the bed clothes or covers 12 can be laced upon the outer sides of the rods 10 and then the rods 11 placed in position to bind the bed clothes or covers against the rods 10.
While the bed clothes or covers are fastened to the rods 10 and 11 still said clothes can be moved by the heads 7 sliding in the guides 3. The guides 3 are of sufficient length to permit of easy and free movement of the sleeper in a bed or crib.
I have designed my bed clothes fastenerparticularly for infants beds or cribs, but the rods 10 and 11 can be made of a sufficient length to permit of the bed clothes fastener being used upon a large bed.
The fastener is made of light and durable metal and can be finished to harmonize with the bed or crib in connection with which it is used.
I reserve the right to make such changes in my invention as are permissible by the appended claims.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new, is
1. In a bed clothes fastener, the oombination with the posts or head and foot pieces of a bed, of vertical slotted guides detacliably secured to said posts, T-shaped heads slidably mounted in said guides, longitudinal parallel rods connecting said heads and arranged one above the other, blocks detachably mounted in said heads, and a rod connecting said blocks for binding clothes against the first mentioned rods, substantially as described.
2. A bed clothes fastener comprising vertical guides, heads movably mounted in said a movable rod connecting said heads, subguides, rods connecting said heads, blocks stantially as described. 10 detachably connected to said heads, and a In testimony whereof I affix my signature rod connecting said blocks, substantially as in the presence of two Witnesses.
described. MARRIOTT RILEY.
3. A bed clothes fastener comprising Witnesses: guides, heads movably mounted in said W. M. DEEMER,
guides, fixed rods connecting said heads, and G. W. FoRsYTHE.
