BOILER-CLEANER.

T can whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. Pmasoorr, citizen of the United States, residing at East Liverpool, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boiler-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates'to cert in new and useful improvements in boi er cleaners of that type in which the soot" and other accumulations within the fire flues is blown out by means of a jet of live steam.
The object of the invention is to design a novel boiler cleaner which will operate in an effective manner to clean the fines and which can be readily built into the wall of the boiler.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which: Figure l is a sectional view through a. boiler showing the cleaner applied thereto.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a boiler which is of the horizontal type and is provided with the fines 2 through which -the products of combustion pass. Spaced from and located directly 0 positeone end of the boiler is a wall 3, and uilt in or otherwise suitably applied to this wall is a chest 4. This chest is preferably rcctan 1- lar in cross section so as to be interposed a tween the variouscourses of brick work and one end of the chest projects outwardly beyond the wall and is provided upon its upper side with a boss 5' to which a steam pipe 6 is connected, and upon its lower side'with a drain cock 7. A packin gland 8 is located at the outer end of the c est and 006 crates with a'nut 9 to retain packin aroun a rod 10 which asses longitudina y through the chest. ,A andle 11 is applied to the outer extremity of the rod 10 and constitutes a means for rotating the rod and moving it longitudinally. In the present instance the handle is provided at its middle point with an angular socket 12 receiving an angular pgrtion of the rod, the extremity of the rod ing threaded to receive a nut 13 which re-' tains the handle securely in position upon the rod. -A valve 14 is Iinterposed in the length of the steam pipe 6 and a drain cook 15 for withdrawing the .condensed steam is located immediately over the said valve.
The inner end of the chest 4-is formed with an opening within which a sleeve 16 is threaded, the said sleeve projectin r within the chest. Slidably mounted wit iin the sleeve 16 is a ipe 17 one end of whichextends Within t e chest and has a collar 18 threaded upon the exterior thereof, the said collar being formed with a yoke 19 which is secured to the rod '10 and forms a connection between the rod and the pipe. Carried by the opposite end of the itpe 17 is a laterally extending arm 20 provide: at one end with a boss within which the extremity of the pi e 17 is threaded. This arm 20 gradua y tapers toward the .free end thereof which is closed by a removable plug 21, such a construction perinittiri ready access to be had to the interior of t 0 arm for cleaning the same. It will also be observed that the arm 20 is triangular in cross section and is provided along one of the longitudinal-corners thereof wlth a plurality of openings 22 through which the steam is designed to issue in jets and pass through the boiler flues'when the device is in operation. With this con'- struction it will he readil ap arent that by suitably manipulating tie andle 11 the lateral arm 20 can be moved back and forth between the wall 3 and the end of the boiler and can be rdtated so as to be brought into cooperative relation with all of tho fl'ues 2 passing through the boiler. 5

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. The combination of a boiler provided with fiues and having a wall Opposite one end thereof, a chest mounted in the wall, a pipe extending loosely through the inner end of the chest and communicating with the interior thereof, a steam pipe leadlng to the chest, a lateral arm carried by the pipe a' l having a triangular cross section, the end of the lateral arm being open, and one of the longitudinal edges of the said arm being formed with a series of jet openings, a removable lug for the open end of the arm, and means or rotating the Eu e to swing the lateral arm across the end 0 t e boiler, so that the steam jets issuing therefrom will pass through the ilues.
2. The combination of a boiler provided with flues and having a wall op osite one end thereof, a rectan ular steam 0 most mounted in the wall, a pac ing box at the. outer end of the steam chest, a sleeve projecting within the steam chest at the inner end thereof, a
ipe passing loosely through the sleeve, a colar a plied to the pi )e and cooperating with the sleeve to limit the sliding movement of the ipe, a yoke upon the collar, a rod exbox and having an operative connectlon with the yoke for rotatin the pipe and moving the same longitu dinal y, and a lateral arm carried by the pipe and adapted to be swun r across the'end of the boiler, the said latera armbeing formed with jet openings.
