CONDUIT-CLEANER.
Speeication of Letters Patent.
Patented May 4, 1920.
Application led November 18, 1919. Serial No. 388,898.
To all whom t may concern.' Be it known that-I, EDWARD HALL, a citi- Zen of the United States, and a resident of Laurium, in the county of Houghton and State of Michigan, have 1nvented certain new and `useful Improvements in Conduit- Cleaners, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention is an improvement in conduit cleaners, vide a device of the character specified, adapted for cleaning pipesof any characte as for instance flues, drains and the like, wherein a flexible shaft is provided-with a vcircular brush connected to the shaft to rotate therewith, the shaft having a guiding wheel for properly spacing the brush with respect to the flue and for facilitating the insertion and the passage of the brush.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view vice 1n use,
Fig. 2 is a similar 'view of the brush and i its support,
Fig. 3 1s a sectional view.
In the present embodiment of the invention a brush is provided, consisting of bristles 1 which are arranged in circular form, and held between a pair of washers 2 of leather or the like. A central support 3 is provided for the bristles, midway between the washers, the said support being a ring preferably of brass, and a washer 4 of brass is arranged at the outer face of each leather washer 2. The brush is held upon a threadshoulder 6 which separates the stem from the body 7 of the shaft section of which the stem is a part, and the body 8 of a yoke which is threaded on to the stem. 4
Between the 'arms of this yoke there is and has for its object to pro-l.
showing the delongitudinally of the and the wheel, and the yoke are preferably of brass. The body 7 of the shaft section has a threaded socket for receiving a stem 10 on another shaft section 11, which is also socketed to receive a stem 12 on a longer section 13. These sections 7 11 and 13 are similar, and by means of them the rigid shaft which supports the brush and the wheel may be increased in length or diminished as may be desired. The socket portion 14 of the shaft section 13 is detachable from the body portion. The body portion 1,3 has a plain stem 15 which engages a recess in the socket portion 14, and
journaled a wheel 9,
the parts are pinned to ether by across pin` 16. A flexible shaft 1 of usual construction is connected with the socket 14, for driving the brush.
In operation, for cleaning a chimney for instance, the brush and the wheel 9 are introduced through the stove pipe opening 18l of the flue 19. The shaft is now madevto rotate, and the brush will rotate, cleaning the soot and other accretions from the flue wall. The brush may be introduced as far as the flexible shaft will permit. In vcleaning the drains the operation would be the same. v
I claim:
A device, of the character specified comprisin a supporting shaft having a reduced threa ed stem, a circular brush on the stem a washer of flexible material on each side o the brush, rigid washers outside of the flexible washers, a yoke comprising a body having a socket into which the reduced end of the shaft .is threaded and arms extending shaft from the socket, an a wheel Journaled between the arms.
