Description

'rical surfaces formed thereon before To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN J. PRIXDLE. of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented a certain new and useful Iniprovement in Last Blocks, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, in whicl: E
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lastblock embod 'l1l n invention: F i s. 2 and b O 3 rs 3 are, respective] of the block illustrsiKed in Fig. 1.
The object of my invention has been to provide a last-block fl'01l1 which last parts can be turned, which blocks shall-have gecmetrical hinge-attaching or other geometand preparatory to the turningmperation; and, to such ends my invention:consists in the last block hereinafter specified.
1 I have chosen to illustrate my invention last illustrated in Patent No. 648,525 .granted to me May 1st, 1900, but the invention is applicable to a block for forming any otherlastart.
p The block A is provided with a surface B that is to form one of the geometrical abutting or attaching, or other geometrical surfaces in the last, or that bears a definite relation to such a surface, which relation may he that of identity or any other geometric reistion, such as parallelism to such surface at a definite distance therefrom.
other means of attachment, is provided,
whereby the block may as secured to a chuck In the instance chosen for illustration, the slot c is of proper form to receive the forepart hinge-plate and wedge of the last illustrated in my said patent. Any means of attachment, however, may be used by which the block may be conveniently secured to a chuck or to a last hinge. The side surfaces of the block may The end surface D geometrical surface if desired.

LAST-BLOCK.
Patented Sept. 15, 1908. Divided and this application filed March 6, 1905.
'hilc I have chosen the above form of block to illustrate my invention, I desire it to be understood that there are many other forms under which the invention could be 5 practiced, and I do not desire to be limited 2 beyond the scope of my claims and the quirements of the prior art.
This application is a division of my applig cation No. 72,081, filed August 14th, 1901 i for improvements in and relating to lasts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A block for forminglast parts, such block having two or more geometrical surfaces formed 'thereon in the same relation they are to bear in the finished last part.
2. A block for forming last parts, such block having an abutting surface and a geometrical hinge-attaching surface formed thereon in the relation which such surfaces are to have in the finished last part. I
3. A block for forming last parts, such block having a finished surface, and having a slot or opening in which the hinge of the last is ada ted to be received.
v i i i block having a finished surface and having hinge-attaching means on the end thereof on which such surface is formed.
5. A block for forming last parts, such block having a finished surface, and having doghttaching means on the end thereof, on i which such surface is formed.
6. As a new article. of manufacture, a last block formed with a squared end to serve as an abutting face in a finished last.
" 7. As a new article of manufacture, a lastblock formed ith a squared end which is to serve as an abutting face in the finished last, said block having a squared toe ort-ion.
In testimony that I claim t 10 foregoing 1 I have hereunto set my hand.
