The object of the invention being the construction of a velocipede which, while possessing all the advantages. of velocipedes now offered, can be operated and used by different-sized persons...
To enable those skilled in the arts'tomake and use my invention, I will describe its construction and operation.
A shows the reach of my improved v'elocipede, .provided-with a saddle, or seat, B, which reach inclines downward a certain extent from its forward end.
In the forward 'end' of this reach A-is an opening, through which is passed the upper end of a forked spindle, or shaft 0, within the forked portion of which isplaced the forward, or driving-wheel D, the axle of said wheel projecting beyond the sides of the spindle,
and having attached to it the cranks E, to which are secured the uprights'F, by which the velocipede is operated. I

These uprights are provided, at certain intervals, with the pins, or rounds f, secondary upright pieces, G, being used to strengthen and hold in position the pins or rounds f.

The rider or operator seats himself upon the saddle,
or seat B,.and places his feet upon the rounds, or pins f, secured as shown, and having started the machine, the same will be readily kept 'in motion, by depressing and elevating alternately. the uprights -F,and thus, throughthe cranks E, imparting a crank-motion to the forward wheel.-
When desired, the velocipede may be propelled by hand, by manipulating the upper ends or handles of the uprights projecting through the yoke H, while the.
direction of the vehicle may be changed by turning the tiller I, attached to the upper end of the forked shaft, in which is held the main or driving-wheel, in the desired direction, either to the right or to the left.
The great feature of the machine is found in the fact that, owing to the employment of the pins, or rounds f, placed at certain intervals upon the uprights, the vehicle can be made available by different-sized persons, and can be operated as easily by a child as by a vman, thus greatly increasing the utility of the velociede.
