IMPROVEMENT IN VELOCIPEDES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 101,310, dated March 29, 1870; antedated March 16, 1870.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK L. PURROY, of the city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement for Pro pelling a Carriage for the use of Children; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 represents the sect-ion of the machinery employed for transmitting the movement.
InFig. 1 the child, sitting on the seat Zand pressing with its feet on the pedals D D, that work on the bar A B, makes the axle X turn by means of the rod F drawing the chain on the pulley O. The axle endon the drivingwheelNV is square, and when turned by the cranks Y will revolve and cause the carriage to move backward or forward at will.
By the use of the pulley the pedal motion is made easy and regular, and the stroke of the pedal D can be made as small and easy as required by using the chain, which can be lengthened or shortened at will by means of the slots or openings in the rod F.
, What I claim as my invention is The combination of the frame-shaft A B, pedals D D, rods E E,chain-pulley,and cranked axle, the whole arranged as and for the purpose set forth.
