The Schedule'refen'ed to in these Letter Patentand making part of. the'lams.
The nature of` this invention is in the arrangement of a leather orsimilar band with tongues interlocking with the springs, and connected by hooks in such manner as to keep the springs at proper distances' apart, and at the same timedistribute on the springs the suvperincumbent weight. To enable those herein skilled to make and use my said improvements, I will now'more fully describe the same, referring tothe accompanying Figure 1 as a plan; to Figure 2 as a sectional elevation. Ilarrange my said spring-'seat bottom usually upon a rectangular frame, A, formed to iitv the seat for which the same is intended." `But an additional frame', A, to the frame' of the seat i's not needed, as the parts may be directly attached to -the fixed seat-'frame of the wagon or car.
Upon the proper frame A Iarrange the rods B, sup-V porting these by'eye-bolts b. l
. Upon1the rods B -I coil the velastic springs C, formedA generally as indicated in gs'l and 2, the ends of the springs being turned down, and secured .fin the frame A, and said springs forming the loops c.
On thelonger. sides of the frame A the 'springs O thus placed will liedirectly opposite to each other, as shown in iig. 1.
At theshorter sides of the said frame I secure 4on Vbars B halfsprings G', securing the same at .ends in the frame A similarly to the springs O.
The single projecting wire t of said springs G will hook into the leather, rubber, or other bands D.
The main strips of said bands extend'along under `all the loops c of the maiu springs C; but said bands have tongues which are thrown over 'the ends of the'loops c, thus connecting the loops c and their springs longitudinally with each other.
At ends the tongues d are punched with holes-'d tol admit the joint hooks E, which join the opposite tongues, and thus make the transverse connection of the parts.
' The said improvement is applicable in forming bedbottoms or bottoms for chairs, car or wagonseats, andv itis advantageous in its simplicity of construction and easy adjustment. A padded cover is usually thrown over the bottom thusy formed, and. it is plain'that in case of any required repair to the springs or bands above described, such-repairs maybe readily made.
without disturbing or removing the cover above the bottom.
Having Vthus fully described `my invention,
The bauds D, passing under the loops c of the springs 0,'and the tongues d passing over the same, (or the reversed arrangement,) when combined with the springs d and hooks @substantially as set forth, and for the purposes specified. Y A
, In witness of said invention, I have hereunto set 4 WM.' CARR. Witnesses: f GEO. P. HEBTHEL, Jr.,
