SOIL-PULVERIZER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 1, 1908 Application filed October 8, 1907. Serial No. 396,498.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, JOHN MAsoN SIVADIE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orofino, in the county of Nez Perce and State of Idaho, have invented a new and useful Soil-Pulverizer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to soil pulverizers and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a pulverizer as indicated which consists of a frame having pivotally mounted therein a series of soil-engaging members and means for swinging the same simultaneouslyv to adjust the angle with relation to the ground. The said pivoted members are of special construction and are especially adapted for the character of work to be performed.
In the accompanying drawing z-Figure l is a top plan view of the pulverizer. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the pivoted member thereof. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of an end piece for said member. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of an end portion of said member showing the end piece inserted therein. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a lever mechanism used upon the pulverizer.
The implement consists of the substantially rectangular frame l which is provided at its rear side with parallel bars 2 preferably made from channel iron, while the forward portion of the frame l is preferably formed up of angle iron. The soil-engaging members 3 are pivoted at their ends in the sides of the frame l, the said frame being provided with perforations or bearings for the reception of the pivots or trunnions of the members 3. An arm 4 is mounted upon the forward edge of each member 3 and the rod 5 is pivotally attached to the arms 4. The link 6 is pivoted at its forward end to the rear end of the rod 5 and at its rear end to the lever 7 which is fulcrumed to thel strip of angle iron 8 which in-turn is secured at its end portions to the bars 2, 2 of the frame l. The gear segment 9 is attached at its ends to the strip S and is adapted to be engaged by the pawl l() mounted upon the lever 7. Through the instrumentality of the lever 7 the link 6 and the rod 5, the members 3 may be turned axially in the frame 1 and when in proper position are held in such position by the pawl 10 which engages the teeth of the segment 9.
The members 3 are made of sheet metal which is formed substantially U-shapedl .in
'transverse section with the strip of channel iron ll connecting the ends of the U-shaped portion together. Each member 3 is formed as a hollow body with the strip 1 l closing one edge thereof and the strips 12 inserted in the ends thereof. The strips 12 are provided upon theirouter sides with the trunnions 1.3 at the bases of which are the inclined guides or guards 14.
to prevent the ends of the members 3 from coming in Contact with the inner surfaces'of the sides of the frame l, at the same time, the said guides by reason of their peculiar configuration will not permit the accumulation of mud or dirt between the ends of the pivoted members and the sides of the frame to such an extent as to materially interfere with ghe ready shifting of the said pivoted memn ers.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is l. An implement as described comprising a frame, members pivoted at their ends to the sides of said frames and having at the bases of their pivots .inclined guides which are wedge-shaped in cross-section.
2. An implement as described comprising a frame, a member pivotally mounted therein and having a body portion formed up of sheet metal substantially U-shaped, a strip of channel iron connecting the ends of the U-shaped portions together, strips inserted in the ends of the pivoted member and having trunnions which engage the frame.
