Description
pn'l 1947. R. ADLER MANNIKIN SUPPORT Filed NOV. 2l, 1945 lN-VENTOR MM iff/ff BY me m@ PM ATTORNEYS Patented Apr. 1, 1947 MANNIKIN SUPPORT Ralph Adler, Port Chester, N. Y., assigner to Mary Brosnan, Inc., New York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application November 21, 1945, Serial No. 630,101
5 Claims. (Cl. 223-120.)
This invention relates t improvements in stands or supports for mannikins.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an. improved stand or support for mannikins which is simple in construction and easy to assemble and disassemble, which will not detract from the appearance of the mannikin and which is nevertheless rugged and sturdy in construction and will afford. adequate support to the mannikin.
The stands heretofore available either have not given adequate support to the mannikin or because of their size and manner of connection with the mannikin have detracted from the appearance of the mannikin and made it difficult to display clothes thereon without damaging or mutilating the clothes.
It is a primary object of the present invention to overcome the difliculties heretofore encountered and provide an improved mannikin support of compact construction which will not detract from the appearance of the mannikin nor interfere with the display of clothing thereon and at the same time will provide adequate support.
Other objects will be apparent from the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view partially in section of the foot of a mannikin having my improved support attached thereto,
Fig. 2 is a sectional view in the direction of the arrows on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the under portion of the foot showing the manner in which the support is attached and,
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a strap member forming part of the support.
My invention is applicable vto any mannikin such as is frequently used in store windows for displaying articles of clothing. In the drawing I have shown a foot 5 of a conventional mannikin to which I have applied my improved support consisting generally of a base member or bracket S and a link or strap I which connects between the bracket and the foot of the mannikin in such a manner as to give adequate support to the mannikin and at the same time not interfere with placing a shoe on the foot.
The bracket consists of a base plate t which may be screwed or otherwise attached to the iioor if desired, and also an upright portion 9 having a socket or slot Ill extending downwardly from the top thereof. The link or strap I has a coupling portion II which can be removably inserted in the slot It and is tightly engaged thereby so as to be held firmly in place. The coupling portion merges with a loop portion l2 extending behind the heel of the mannikins foot and adapted to provide clearance for the shoe of the mannikin and the loop portion in turn merges with a foot engaging portion I3 which preferably eX- tends at least as far as the instep of the foot and conforms generally in longitudinal contour with the under surface of the foot of the mannikin. The inner end of the link or strap is pro.- vided with an opening It for accommodating a screw or bolt I5 used to attach the strap to the is tted into the under surface and marginal edges of the foot and is provided with an upwardly extending plug I'I having threaded connection with a tube I8. The plug is embedded in the instep of the mannikins foot and the tube I8 extends upwardly into the ankle and lower portion of the leg. The plate I6 and plug II may be formed in one piece and then pre-assembled with the tube I8. They may be assembled with the foot of the mannikin in the manner shown by casting or molding them therein when the mannikin is made.
In order to accommodate the connecting link or strap 'I and to provide a tighter, rmer connection, the under surface of plate I6 is offset inwardly from the instep to the back of the heel and ankle of the mannikin forming a groove I9. The plate and plug are tapped and threaded as indicated at 20 so as to accommodate the connecting screw I5. i
In using my improved support either or both of the feet of the mannikin may be provided with the connecting plate I6 and an associated plug and tube I'i and I8. Connecting link or strap 1 is applied to the foot so that the portion I3 is disposed in the groove I9 and screw I5 is inserted through the opening I4 into the threaded opening ZIB. The shoe may then be applied to the foot of the mannikin and due to the loop portion I2 it is not necessary to mutilate or damage the shoe in any way. The coupling portion II can then be inserted in the socket in bracket 6 and due to the relatively tight t between the parts the mannikin is firmly held in upright position.
It will be seen that the coupling link or strap may be readily inserted into and removed from engagement with the bracket and it may also be readily removed from and applied to the foot of the mannikin. It will also be seen that the sup- 3 port is so arranged that it is hardly apparent and it does not detract from the appearance of the mannikin or interfere with the display f clothing thereon. The support is also simple to manufacture and assemble and provides adequate support to the mannikin.
Modifications may be made in the illustrated embodiment of the invention Without departing from the invention as set forth in the accompanying claims:
I claim:
1. The combination with a mannikin simulating a human figure and having a foot portion of a reenforcing plate on the lower surface of the foot portion and having a plug extending upwardly therefrom inside the foot portion, said plate and plug being formed with an opening.
2. The combination as set forth in claim 1 inV which a groove is formed in the reenforcing plate and extends from adjacent the opening to the heel of the foot.
3. The combination with a mannikin simulat- I ing a human figure and having a foot portion of a reenforcing plate on the under surface of the foot portion and provided with a plug eX- 2 end having means extending into the opening in of the foot and in a different vertical plane there-f from and a coupling member connected adjacent one end to the base member and at the other end having means connecting it to the reenforced under surface of the foot.
