Description
J. VATTER.
Domestic Oven.
Patented May 4, 1869.
IwvewZ' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN VATTER, OF PHILLIPSBURG, OHIO. I
* ovum.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 89,713, dated May 4, 1869.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN VATTER, of Phit lipsburg, (Centre post office,) in the county of Montgomery, in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Oven; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in an inner pivoted door, and a register, which serves to open and close two fines, and by which the temperature of the oven is regulated.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
The figure represents alongitudinal section of the oven.
The oven is constructed of brick, and does not differ materially from ovens as they are generally constructed, as to the principal features. A represents the interior space of the oven, and
B, the flue, through which the products of combustion escape.
D is an inner door, of sheet-metal, pivoted at its top.
E, the external door, hinged in the usual manner.
0, a flue, extending from the space, external to the door, to the flue B.
G is a register, having the form of two sides of a right-angled triangle, and has connected, near its base, a rod, which passes through the front Wall, and by which it is moved.
The base part closes the flue O, and the vertical part closes the flue B.
The orifice F is for the purpose ofconveying the ashes to the space beneath.
The external door is only closed during the process of baking, and then the register is slid in to close the flue B.
Whilst heating the oven, the door, D, hangs suspended, the draught forcing a passage beneath it.
If it is desired to lessen the temperature of the oven before removing the fuel, the inner door is raised, the flue B closed by the register, and this opens the flue G, for the escape of the products of combustion.
The inner door confines the air entering the oven to the bottom, and thereby is brought more directly in contact with the fuel.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The pivoted door D, constructed and arranged substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
2. The register G, arranged with reference to the fines B and O, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The arrangement of the oven A, flues B Y 0, doors D E, and register G, substantially as described.
JOHN VATTER.
