Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 18, 1908.
Application filed February 25, 1908. Serial No. 417,685.
- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EM-IL R. OREcELIUs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence an the pivot pin against longitudinal play.
Heretofore the fulcruming means in this class of pins have consisted of independent pieces which after some use become detached; or an inwardly folded finger which crimps the stock of the pin in bending and in practice forms an uncertain and non uniform caring for the pin tongue head.
ated, my invention consists in thenovel construction and combination ofparts hereinafter set forth, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of the pin blank. Fig.2, a plan elevation of the same after the first operation. Fig. 3, a section on line 3, 3 of Fig. 2. Figs.4 and 5, sections on lines 4, 4 and 5, 5 respectively of Fig. 3. Fig. 6, a plan of the pin after the second operation.
Fig. 7, a section of line 7, 7 of Fig. 6. Figs.
8 and 9, sections on lines 8; S and 9, 9.respecti'vely of Fig. 7. Fig. 10, aside elevation of the complete pin andits parts mounted, and Fig. 11, a transverse section of the same on line 11., 11 of Fig. 10.
Like reference letters indicate like parts throughout the views.
My pin is formed as follows: A blank or planchet is cut from a sheet of metal, shaped as shown in Fig. 1, comprising a body, a, lateral ears, 1), adjacent one end, and a lateral projection, 0, adjacent the other end. By suitable dies the blank is struck into the form shown in Fig. 2, consisting of an oblong, cupped body, a, with upwardly inclined blank ears, 6, and projection, c. The
incomplete pin is next subjected to the action of compression dies and punches, whereby thematerial in the walls of the body near and at their ends is compressed, forming solid integral bearing or fulcrum blocks, d and d, in opposite ends of the body, 0,, whose top surfaces are preferably slightly inclined towards the center of the pin body. The action of the punches is to form cavities, e, in ears, d. The edge of the cup walls are by the tools referred to rounded as at f, to avoid cutting edges and give a finished appearance to that part of the body. The parts as described are shown in Figs. 6, 7, 8 and 9. The pin is com pleted by bending the projection, c, to form a catch and bending the ears upwardly, so that the cavities, e, shall receive the ends of the .pivot pin, g, upon which is mounted the pin tongue, h, the forward portion, is, of whose head, Z, bears'down upon the integral block, (1. The pivot pin is incapable of any slipping v or longitudinal movement in the ears, and T o the end of securing the advantages and avoidlng the disadvantages above enumer-.
' 1. An article of manufacture comprising a pin formed of 'sheet metal bent to form a cup sha ed oblong body, a block in the end of the b0 y integral with the walls of the body, and integral catch and ears.
2. An article of manufacture comprising a pin formed of sheet metal bent to form a cup shaped oblong body with the edges of the on p walls rounded, afulcruming block in one end of 'tl1e 'body integral therewith and compressed between adjacent walls thereof, an integral catch, and integral ears.
.3. A cuff-pin comprising a cup-shaped ob long body provided with a bearing block in one ofits ends formed by compressing the ad-. j acent walls of the body and having its upper surface downwardly inclined toward the cente'la anclearsan'fla catch all integral with the 'J the wall (if thebody, the marginal Walls hav walls "l'ng thened'ges'mun-elecL 10 4 A cufi-piniformed of plated material. In testimony whereof I haye afiixedwml and comprising a cup-shaped oblong body signatureiin presence of two Witnesses 5 provided with a bearing block in one of its v EMIL Rv CRECELIUS. endsintegral with the adjacent walls of the Witnesses:
