UNITED s'rrrtrns T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Trrouas SCRU'ICIIIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful lm rovements in Puzzles; and I do hereby dee are the following to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in toys, and particularly to )uzzles, and has for an object the provision oi a uzzle that ma be formed in a plurality of dil erent ways and yet be worked and constructed on the same general principle, and is designed to perplex anyone in pro erly solving.
Another ob ect in view rs the provision of a plurality of blocks arranged in a plurality of shapes for forming a predetermined shape.
A further object in view is the provision of a puzzle that may beconstructed of cardboard, wood, tiber, metal, or any other desired substance formed with a plurality of triangles of various colors positioned thereon, the cardboard or other material being designed to be cut into a plurality of pieces with one or more of the triangles positioned on or forming each piece.
A still further object in view is the provision of a puzzle that is attractive and instructive, and also requires considerable patience, acumen, and intellectual perseverance to properl arrange the parts correctly for reforming t re puzzle into an assembled condition.
\Yitlr these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel construetions, combinations and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter nrore fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of a puzzle positioned in a box or casing. Fig. .2 is a plan view of the puzzle showing the parts slightly divided or separated, and the correct position of the same when in an assembled condition.
in forming a lpuzzle according to the present invention t to same may be arranged in any desired shape, but preferably 1 form the same triangular as seen in the accompanying drarfi in which, 1 indicates a puzzle, and 2 Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed. February '20, 1908. Serial No. 416,904.

a box for receiving the same. The box or re ceptacle 2 is of considerable importance in ar ranging the parts of the puzzle, receives and holds the various parts in the position in which they are placed when the puzzle is'being solved. The puzzle may be made from any desired material, as cardboard, fiber, metal, wood, or like material, and arranged with a plurality of white triangular portions or spots 3, and a plurality of black triangular portions or spots 4. It will be evident of course that the portions or spots .3 and 4 may be of other color, but it is desirable to make the colors decidedly different in as the same appearance so as to easily distinguish the cording to Fig. 2 has beconre familiar, the
blocks may be cut out in a different wav and it will require the same amount of work and perseverance for the person to solve the same as the original form requires.
In use after the various blocks have been formed, as seen in Fig. 2, the same are mixed up and then to solve the puzzle it is neces ary to rearrange the same as seen in Figs. 1 and 2, so that one of the points of the triangles of ne color point upward and one of the points of the triangles of the other color point downward. The blocks may be cut out so as to permit the same to be rearranged and have one of the points of the black spots or or tions pointing up, and one of the points 0 the white spots pointing downward.
In use this device may be used strictly as a toy or puzzle and aliord amusement and form a pastime employment, or it may be used for more serious purposes, as advertising various goods, the puzzle being used as an attractive feature.
What I claim is:
1. A puzzle comprising a set of blocks of lar spaces of different colors, and the blocks 1 ticular color ointing in one direct-ion and 10 being so shaped as to adapt the set as a whole that of the otier color in an opposite directo be arranged in the form of a triangle. I tion.
2. A puzzle comprising a set of blocks of In testimony whereof I aflix my signature different shapes, each block havin trianguin presence of two witnesses. lar spaces of different colors and file blocks THOMAS SCRUTCHIN. being so shaped as to adapt the set as a whole to be arranged in the form of a. triangle, and with one of the points of each space of a par Witnesses:
