Description

CHRISTIAN G. SINGLEY, OF MANHEIM, PENNSYLVANIA.
CIG-AR-CRIMPER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 4, 190s.
Application filed July 2, 1907. serial No. 381,930.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN G. SINGLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manheim, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Crimpers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in cigars of that class in which a metallic thimble of the required shape and size is used for the purpose of crimping the wrapper on the head end thereof, when forming -said head end. In said thirnble is arranged an axial pin, being rigidly affixed or loose. lhen said pin is loose, it is movable, longitudinally in and out, for the purpose of forming an axial hole in said head end, and the pin is surrounded on the inner side of the thimble with a coiled spring, for the purpose of withdrawing the samev after said hole has been formed.
The object of the invention is to rovide a simple device for use in the manu acture of the cigar, whereby a hole may be made in the end of the cigar and the edge of the wrapper crimped over into said hole by revolving said device upon the end of the cigar in the procv ess of manufacture.
The purposes ofthe invention are attainedv by the mechanism, devices and means illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which similar reference characters areused to designate like parts eral views, in which zn Figure 1, is a sectional view of a thimble. Fig.`2,`
showing the details of construction. is a side elevation,
1partially in section of a cigar with the thim le in place 'showing the method of o erating. Fig. 3, is an end view of the thimb e showing the head of the plunger. Fig. 4, is an end view of the thlmble showing the bell-sha ed mouth.
In the drawing A esignates a cigar of the character referred to in the opening paragraph hereto, in which the head Aend a appears in longitudinal vertical section and in which B designates a thimble', having a rigidly aflixed longitudinal pin b. at the center thereof, for the purpose of forming a longitudinal hole in the head enel of the `cigar when the wrapper is crimped thereon (see Fig. 2).
A1 designates a cigar with its head end al appearingin longitudinal central section and in which B1 designates a thimble aixed on the pin on the outer side throughout the sev-4 button b4 said head end, for the purpose of'crimping the wrapper thereon, and b1 designates a longitudinal pin having a button b2 on the left hand end thereof, pushing said pin into the axis of the head end of the cigar, forming a longitudinal hole therein.
C designates a coiled spring surrounding the pin on the inner side of the thimble, for the purpose of withdrawing the pin after vaid ongitudinal hole has been formed (see A2 designates a cigar with its head end a7 appearing in longitudinal central section, an in which B2 designates a thimble aflixed on said head end, for the purpose of crimping the Wrapper thereon, and b3 designates a longitudinal pin having a button b4 on the left hand end thereof, for the purpose of pushing said pin into the axis of the head end of the cigar, forming a longitudinal hole therein.
`C1 designates a coiled spring surrounding of the thimble, for the urpose of withdrawing the pin after said Iongitudinal hole has been formed (see Fi It will here be remarked that the coiled spring C surrounding the pin b1 has its upper end in engagement with the under side of a collar b5, for the pin b1, while a sto -pin b3 is secured into the upper end of the t rnble B1, for the purpose of checking the withdrawal of said pin b1 at that point. At the required point on op osite sides near the upper end of the thim le l B2 are two pins 67 57, one situated above the other. Between said lower pin t7 and the of the longitudinal pin b3 the sp Cl is compressed, while these pins 57 b7 by engagement with the collar bs servel to check the withdrawal of said pin b3 when the axial hole in the cigar head is completed.
The invention having thus been ascertained and described in the manner in which its functions are performed fully shown and set forth, what 1s considered new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is In a cigar crimper of the class described, a thimble formed with a bell-shaped opening in one end, and a tubular opening in the other end; said o enings connected by an axial longitudinal) hole: a finger-plunger pointed at one end and headed at the other end, and slidably mounted within said hole for the purpose of' purpose of withdrawing said ring and tubular opening: a coiled Spring em- 1 `In testimony whereof I affix my signature, braolng said pin and1 contained Within said in presence of two subscribing Witnesses. tubu ar o enng: a ockillg pin extendno l 7 transverse y through said thimble near sa l CHRISTIAN G' SNGLE' 5 tubular opening, al for the purpose of ermpf Witnesses;
