Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed March 25, 1908. Serial no; 423,235.
Patented. July 28, 1908.
ords are kept, whereby the recordwanted may.
be readily selected; also a construction by whlch the capacity of the rack may beincreased as the selection of recordsis added to. In attaining these objects I provide a pair of looped hangers having hooks for suspending them from a ceiling or other convenient support, and seatwithin the han ers a. shelf on which the records are shelf preferably having u war ly-turned ges, and downwardly-turne end flanges adjacent to the cross members of the hangers. When the capacity of the rack is to exceed one shelf, a
second shelf of like construction is seated in U-sha ed hangers having hooks engaging over t e first hangers, and this manner of construction continued until the required space is obtained.
- Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming apart of this specification, in whlch similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views. Figure 1 is a erspective view of a rack complete einbo ying my invention, illustrating the manner inv which the records are stowed; Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the rack;
and. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the U-shapedhangers.
Described more in detail, the rack embodies in its construction two looped hangers 5, 5, which are preferably constructed of a single piece of wire,each being bent to provide a cross memberfi at the lower or bottom portion, and an outwardly-turned hook 7 at the up er end for supporting it from the ceiling, wa lor other convenient support. These hangers are s aced a convenient distance apart, and on t eir cross members 6 is seated a shelf 8, of any approved length, which is preferably constructed of sheet metal with the opposite side edges turned upwardly to form flanges 9, and t e ends turned downwardly in engagement with the members 6 of the lace the hangers, which obviously prevents the'shelf from sliding from its seat. The distance between the edge flan es 9 of the shelf is such that the carton wil easily ass lengthwise between them, as illustrated 1n Fig. 1.
If more than one shelf is re uired for stow-v may be continued until a rack of the re uired.
capacity is obtained. This mode of bullding up the rack enables the purchaser of the .same to buy and add the shelves as his selection of records increases, and the way in which the ends of the cartons are displayed permits of the ready selection of any record ad in stock.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1 A rack comprising looped hangers each having a hook arranged approximately centrally between its sides, at its upper end and a cross member at the bottom thereof, and a shelf seated on the cross members of the hangers, having upwardly-turned flanges at opposite sides and downwardly-turned flanges at opposite ends, serving to retain the cross members in engagement with the under side of the shelf.
2. A rack comprising 100 ed hangers having hooks at their upper en s by which they are adapted to be suspended, a shelf seated in the hangers having upwardly-turned flanges at opposite sides and downwardlyturned flan es at oplposite ends, U-shaped hangers each having ooks turned in the directlon of the le th of the shelf and enga ing over the looped Iiangers adjacent to and at the outside of the side flanges of the shelf, and a second shelf of a proximatelythe same construction as the first, seated in the U- shaped hangers.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAVE H. SOHUBERT.
