To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH FURNAs MILES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paris, in the county of Lamar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Tents; and I do ment arranged in the upper story.

In the accompanying drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of this improved tent with the covering removed; Fig, 2 is a front elevation of one of the foldable supporting posts with the folding arms shown in operative position in full lines, and in collapsed position in dotted lines; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the post in collapsed position; Fig. 4 represents a perspective View of the tent complete in position ready for use, the frame thereof being shown in dotted lines.

The supporting frame of this improved tent is shown composed of two supporting end posts or standards 1 and 2, each composed of two sections 3 and 4, hingedly connected, and each provided with two pairs of spaced arms hinged to the opposite sides thereof and adapted to be folded fiat thereagainst, the lower pair of arms 5 and 6 being preferably connected adjacent to the hinged connection of the sections 3 and 4, and the arms 7 and 8 connected about midway said section 4. The upper ends of the upper sections of the two posts are connected by a flexible element, preferably a ridge rope 9, and the free ends of the lower arms 5 and 6 of the two posts are connected by cover supporting ropes 10 and 11. Eave supports or ropes 12 and 13 connect the free ends of the upper arms 7 and 8 of the two posts to provide a support for the cover hereinafter described.

Brace ropes 14 and 15 are connected to the upper end of each section 4 of the poles and with the free ends of the arms 7 and 8 and 5 and 6. Y

A rope 16 is connected at its opposite ends to the posts 1. and 2 to divide the upper portion of the tent longitudinally and provide an additional support for the canvas floor, hereinafter described.

Guy ropes, as 17 and 18, are attached at one end to the free ends of the arms of the respective posts and provided with means for securing them to stakes to hold the tent securely in adjusted position. Additional guy ropes 19'and '20 may be secured to the top of each post section 4 adjacent its hinged connection with the member 3 to more securely hold the frame against wind storms.

A canvas floor 21 is attached at opposite sides to the ropes 10 and 11 and passed over the central rope 16' to form hammock-like sleeping compartments. This floor 21 is also preferably attached at its ends to the arms 5 and 6 of the respective posts. A top 22, preferably composed of canvas, is at tached at its opposite ends to the ropes 10 and 11, and is passed over the ridge rope 9 at the top of the tent, and preferably fastened to the ropes 12 and 13 which connect the free ends of the arms 7 and 8 of the res ective posts. End coverings 23 and 24, preferably composed of canvas, are fastened to the top canvas and extend from the comb to the cave supports, and are secured thereto, being left loose from the cave supports or arms 7 and 8. These end coverings are preferably divided in the middle from the cave sup orts to the bottom to allow them to be r0 fed up individually and permit ingress or egress to the upper part of the tent by a suitable ladder, not shown.

25 and 26 are detachably connected at their u per ends with the lower edges of the top an end coverings above described by means of buttons or any other suitable fastening devices.

A fly cover 27, preferably composed of oiled canvas, is fastened to the ends of the tent at the top thereof preferably by means of arms 28, and extends over the tent on opposite sides thereof, the lower free edges being preferablyheld in posit1on by guy ropes, as 29. In case of a storm this fly cover is designed to be loosened from the posts which support the guy ropes 29, and are fastened to the stakes close to the tent to form a watertight covering for the tent, and it may also be used as a water-tight wrapper when the tent is to be packed. These posts 1 and 2, and their arms may be composed of any suitable material, and the sections thereof are provided with any suitable means for holding them in upright position.

Any desired number of cross ropes, as 16, may be used to divide the canvas floor 21 into the desired number of sleeping compartments, the number being regulated by the width of the tent.

I claim as my invention:

1. A collapsible tent frame comprising foldable spaced supporting end osts having laterally extending arms foldab y connected therewith, cover supporting ropes connecting the arms of one post with those of the other, a ridge rope connecting the upper ends of the two posts, bracing ropes connecting the upper end of each post with its respective arms, and guy ropes connected with said arms.

2. A collapsible tent frame comprising foldable spaced supporting end posts, one member of each post being provided with arms extending laterally in opposite directions and hingedly connected at one end with said member, cover supporting ropes con nected with the free ends of said arms, a ridge rope connecting the upper ends of the two posts, bracing ropes connecting the upper ends of each post with its respective arms, and guy ropes connected with said arms and with said posts.

3. A collapsible tent frame comprising foldable spaced supporting end posts, one member of each post being provided with spaced pairs of arms extending laterally in opposite directions and hingedly connected at one end with said member at points intermediately of its ends, cover supporting ropes connecting the free ends of the arms of one post with those of the other, a ridge rope connecting the upper ends of the two posts, and guy ropes connected with said posts.

4. A collapsible tent frame comprising foldable supporting end posts having laterally extending arms, foldably connected therewith, cover supporting ropes connecting the arms of one post with those of the other, a rope connecting the arms of each post with those of the other at points intermediately of their ends, a ridge rope connecting the upper ends of the two posts, and guy ropes connected with said arms.

5. A collapsible tent frame comprising foldable supporting end posts having laterally extending arms, foldably connected therewith, cover supporting ropes connecting the arms of one post with those of the other, a rope connecting the arms of each post with those of the other at points intermediately of their ends, a ridge rope connecting the upper ends of the two posts, guy ropes connected with said arms, and a flexible lloor secured to the ropes connecting the lower arms of the two posts.

6. A collapsible tent l'rame comprising foldable spaced supporting end posts having laterally extending arms lold ably connected therewith, cover supporting ropes conneetin g the arms of one post with those 01 the other, a ridge rope connecting the upper ends ot the two posts, bracing ropes connecting the upper end of each post with its respective arms, guy ropes connected with said arms, a cover member secured at its opposite ends to the cover supporting ropes on opposite sides of the frame and extending over the ridge rope, and end cover members secured to the ropes connecting the respective arms of each post. p

7. A collapsible tent 'lrame comprising foldable spaced supporting end posts having laterally extending arms 'l oldably connected therewith, cover supporting ropes connecting the arms of one post with those o'l' the other, a ridge rope connecting the upper ends of the two posts, bracing ropes connecting the upper end of each post with its respective arms, guy ropes connected with said arms, a cover member secured at its opposite ends to the cover supporting ropes on opposite sides of the frame and extending over the ridge rope, end cover members secured to the ropes connecting the respective arms 01 each post, a protective flap connected intermedlately of its ends with said ridge rope and extending on opposite sides of the frame, and a curtain detachably connected with the lower ends of said cover members and depending therefrom.
