To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM K. KRAUSE, a citizen of the United Statesof America, residing at Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented a certain new, and useful Portable Collapsible Tent-House and Folding Bed Combined;

and I- do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to portable collapsible tent-house and folding bed combined, and it may be said to consist in the provision of the novel and advantageous .fea-

tures and in the novel and improved construction, arrangement, and combination of parts as will appear from the description and claims which follow hereinafter.

One object. of the invention is to provide a novel and improved folding ,framework in combination with the folding bed frame. Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved construction which permits of the tent-house and folding bed being compacted to occupy SWCOIIL and serviceable, convenient and effectiv interior of the tent-house-or bedding when the parts are collapsed and compacted.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a novel and improved construction of the nature specified which can be readily mounted on a vehicle, and is adapted to shut out insects and reptiles, and which by turning up the legs on .the bed frame can be used as an ambulance, or as a covered sleeping berth which can be occupied while the vehicle is traveling fromplace to place.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a novel and improved construction of the nature specified which is simple and economical to manufacture, strong and durable, attractive in appearance, practical Specification of Letters Patent.

Other objects and the advantages of the nvention will be apparent to those skilled in the art from a careful consideration of the following description of the preferred form of the construction embodying the invention, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a broken side elevational view showing the combined tent-house and fold--- ing bed compacted and attached toa vehicle; Fig. 2 is a rear end elevational view of the same; Fig. 3 is aside elevational view showing the bed and tenthouse set up; Fig. 4 shows the bed and. tent-house in 'longitudinal section; Fig. 5 is a front end view of the tent-house, taken on the line --5 of F1 4 and showing the sides in raised position; Fig. 6 is an enlarged frag- 1 inentary cross-sectional view taken on the line 66 of Fig. 4; Fig. 7 is an enlarged broken sectional view taken on the line 77 of Fig. 5; Fig. 8 is an enlarged broken sectional view taken on the line 88 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 9 is an enlarged broken view ShOWIIIg" one of the window fasteners.

The foldable bed frame consists of the front end cross-piece 10, the rear end'crosspiece 11, and the side pieces 12 which are suitably secured to the cross-pieces 10 and 11 and are each divided into two parts joined together by hinges 13 disposed on the underside thereof.

The foldable framework of the tent-house consists of the front uprights 14 having the upper end portions thereof connected by crosspiece 15 and having the lower end por-' tions connected by-hinges 16 to the upper side of the forward end portions of the side pieces 12, the rear upright 17 having the lower end portions thereof connected by hinge 18 to the upper side of the rear end portions of the side pieces 12, and the upwardly and rearwardly inclined arms 19 which have the lower end portions thereof connected by hinges 20 to the upper'end portions of the rear uprights 17 and which have onthe upper end portions thereof the crossbar 21.

A bed spring 22 may be suitably mounted on the cross-pieces'10 and 11 and have arranged thereonthe divided mattress 23 disposed between the side pieces 12 of the bed frame.

14 and 17 may havethereon suitable means such as the-swinging arms 24 adapted to engage the stops 25 on the side pieces 12 to hold said uprights in erect position, and the bed frame may be sup ported at a suitable distance above the ground by legs 26 which have the upper end portions thereof mounted on pivots 27 on the side pieces 12, and adapted to bear against projections or abutments 28 on'the side pieces 12.

To the rear of the cross piece-11 is araised platform or floor 29 which is arranged at a lower level than the bed frame and is preferably provided with forwardly extending projections 30 adapted to fit in notches 31 or against projections with which the rear legs 26 may be provided.

The tent canvas or other suitable flexible fabric 32 for covering the bed frame, tent the hinged screen window 33, and the hinged windows 34 having light transmitting-panes 35 and fasteners 36 for locking them in closed position. Also at the sides of the tent-house the covering fabric 82' may be attached to frames 37 which are mounted on hinges 38 secured to the tent-house frame and in closed position lie against'the side pieces 12 and the uprights 10 and 11, but which can be raised and can be held in raised position by cords 38 if desired.

The rear end portion of the tent-house may be provided with a door 39 mounted on hinges 40 secured to one of the rear uprights 17 and having the lower end thereof at a suitable distance above the platform 29, and said rear end portion may also be provided with a ventilating door 41 mounted on hinges 42 secured to one of the arms 19.

Ropes, cables, or the like, 43, for supporting and holding the tent-house rigid, have one end portion thereof suitably attached to studs or projections 44 on the sides of the rear ends of the bed frame and the platform 29. and have the other end portion thereof looped around studs 45 at the top of the front uprights 14 and attached tostuds 48 on any relatively stationary object such as the vehicle 47 on which the combined tent-house and bed maybe mounted if desired.

In order tomount the combined tent-house and bed on the vehicle 47' any suitable or approved means may be: employed, that shown consisting of angle plates 48 suitably secured to the crosspiece 10 on the front end of the bed frame and having thereon extensions 49 the lower ends of which are fitted on the bolts 50 on the rear ends of the vehicle springs 51; said extensions 49 being also connected to the body of the vehicle 47 by means of the brace bars 52- i From the foregoing the manner of use and the advantages of the construction will be readily understood by those skilled in the art, and it will be seen that the construction is well adapted to accomplish the objects of the invention, The bottom of the tent-house is raised above the ground and the tent-house is constructed to permit of shutting out flood water, reptiles, and insects, and to permit of occupants standing erect in the rear portion of the tent-house. By turning up the legs 26' the tent-house can be transported set up, and can be used as an ambulance or traveling sleeping berth.

When desired the tent-house can be partially collapsed to make it smaller and warmer for'the occupants, by first disengaging the arms 24 on the uprights 17 from the stops 25, then turning down the arms 19, and then piling the rear end portion of the tent-house on the forward portion, and again bringing said arms 24 into engagement with said stops 25. The tent-house can be completely collapsed and compacted to occupy a comparatively smallspace, by first disengaging the arms 24 on the uprights 17 from the stops 25, then turning down the arms 19, then piling the rear portion of the tent house on the forward portion, then turning the latter, then pressing the collapsed parts toward the front uprights 14 and securing the whole in compacted condition by means of the ropes 43 and a tie plate 53 removably attached to said ropes.

The construction which has been particularly illustrated and described admits of changes and modifications and some of the parts thereof can be used without others wherefore the right is reserved to all such changes and modifications as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention which is defined in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a construction of the nature specified, the combination of a foldable bed frame, legs pivotally mounted thereon, front and rear uprights on the bed frame, hinges connecting said uprights to the bed frame, arms extending upwardly and rearwardly from the rear uprights, hinges connecting wardly, and a crossbar on said arms; a.plat-- 2. platform, and means for mounting the whole on a vehicle.

3. In a construction of the nature specified, the combination of a foldable bed frame comprising a front end crosspiece, a rear end crosspiece, side pieces secured to the crosspieces and each divided into two parts, and hinges on the underside of the side pieces joining the parts; pivoted legs on the bed frame, a foldable framework comprising uprights mounted on the front end of the bed frame, a crosspiece between the upper ends of said uprights, uprights hinged on the rear end of the bed frame, arms hinged on the upper ends of the last mentioned uprights and extending upwardly and reari and means for holding'the framework rigid in set up condition.

5. In a construction of the nature specicovering fabric adjacent thereto.

6.- In a construction of the nature specified, the combination of a foldable bed frame, a foldable framework mounted thereon, a platform, pivoted legs on the bed frame, a covering fabric arranged to cover the bed frame, framework, and platform, frames hinged on the sides of said framework for raising the covering fabric adjacent thereto, and means for holding the framework rigid in set up condition.

7. In a construction of the nature specified, the combination of a foldable bed frame, pivoted legs thereon, a foldable framework mounted on the bed frame, framework, and platform, a vehicle, means for mounting the whole on the vehicle, and

ropes connected to the vehicle and to the framework, bed frame, and platform.
