Description

PATENTED JULY 28, 1908. H. HOHNER. ACCORDION. APPLICATION FILED JAN. 23, 1908.
w; llldllb- HANS I'IOHNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ACCORDION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 28, 1908.
Application filed January 23, 1908. Serial No. 412,280.
Be it known that I, HANs HOHNER, a citizen of Germany, residing at New York city, Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Accordions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an accordion provided with novel and effective means for producing a full round organ-like tone.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is an end view of an accordion embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a plan of one of the accordion heads, and Fig. 3 a section on line 33, Fig. 2.
The top or head 10 of the accordion is provided with the usual key-board 11, the keys 12 of which operate the sound-controlling valves 13 by rods 14, as usual. Valves 13 are inclosed within a sound chamber 15 extending over the entire length of head 10 along keyboard 11 and beneath keys 12. This sound chamber is formed by an obliquelyset plate 16 spanning the corner formed between'key-board and head, and by end plates 17. Plate 16 enters with one edge a grooved rail 18 projecting from key-board 11 between keys 12 and valve-rods 14:. The other edge of plate 16 rests upon head 10 and abuts against a molding 19 on said head. End plates 17 are attached to rail 18 by screws 20 and are provided with flanges 21 extending over the edges of plate 16. The body of plate 16 is provided with a series of alined perforations within which are fitted a series of sound tubes 22 having belled ends 23. These tubes are so set that they extend at an acute angle over head 10, thus diverging from key-board 11.
By the means described, a full round organ-like tone is imparted to the instrument, while by the peculiar arrangement of the sound chamber and tubes, ample space is provided for the free manipulation of the keys.
I claim:
1. An accordion provided with a head, a key-board, key-controlled valves, an oblique plate extending from head to key-board, and sound tubes fitted in said plate, substantially as specified.
2. An accordion provided with a head, a key-board, a rooved'rail on the key-board, key-controlled? valves, an oblique perforated plate engaging the grooved rail and the head, and sound tubes fitted in said plate, substantially as specified.
3. An accordion provided with. a head, a key-board, a grooved rail on the key-board, key-controlled valves, an oblique perforated plate engaging the grooved rail and the head, end plates engagingthe oblique plate, and sound tubes fitted in said oblique plate, sub
'stantially.as specified.
' Signed by me at New York city, (Manhattan,) N. Y., this 22nd day of January, 1908.
HANS HOHNER.
